Running Vegas 8b on a Dual Quad Precision 740 from Dell. The program is crashing when trying to render an MPEG2. Have any of you gotten this error message before?

Is all the media in your project MPEG2? Or is it crashing on a particular piece of MPEG2 within a project of mixed media?

A lot of the media files from the project are avi. I try not to use compressed media on the timeline unless its absolutely necessary.

Just wanted to thank Sony's Tech Support for resolving the issue. I know they get trashed quite a bit on this forum, so i wanted to post something in their favor to balance things out.

Thanks again!

So, what was the problem ??
pmooney wrote on 5/23/2008, 11:42 AM
Apparently, there was an error with one of the Windows XP kernels. MS described the error as an OS confusion about which "look" (classic vs. XP style) to display.

Believe me, I have no idea how this error came about, as I've never used the classic display before. But i downloaded the MS hotfix for the issue and Vegas has been running like normal, which for me has been largely free of render errors or crashes.

Wow, that's pretty esoteric. If Sony support was able to nail that, they deserve five gold stars. Very impressive tech support!!

Can you please provide the link/webpage for the fix that solved your problems?
What download fixed your situation....
Hopefully some of us could also benefit from a good "fix" !
