Problems with computer ID-- constant reregistration

jfjr wrote on 6/13/1999, 10:16 AM
I have a computer with swappable hard drives. As a result If I switch from drive a to drive b and
back to drive a Vegas has a new computer ID and prompts me to re-register.IS there a fix for
this?IS there a limit to how many new keys I get?I think I'd rather have a dongle than deal with
this.At one point if I connected to the internet and then ran Vegas it would boot without
prompting me to re-register.It has stopped and now everytime the computer is turned off I get
the message.

I have had the same problem, but I'm not using swappable
drives. I used Vegas one day, and upon rebooting the next
day I got the message that my computer ID does not match my
hardware. I managed to re-register, but I'm wondering if
this is going to be a daily event. (NT4 SP5)

I'd like to try to find a solution to the problems you've
reported.

Could you send us the following information about the
system that you encountered this problem on:

The Computer ID, or IDs, displayed in the Vegas
Registration dialog
The Activation Code, or codes that you received

Operating system (including service pack number)
Network Card or cards
Modem type
Browser version & any security patches
Hard drive type

Thanks for your help and your feedback.

Should I post it here or email it?

The computer ID changes every time I boot up. That's the
problem. I'll keep a record of them from now on if that
will be helpful, but they have all been completely
different. Re: activation code, that has also been
different every time. I'll keep track of these and send in
a separate message if that will help.

I'm using NT 4, Service Pack 5. I'm using no network card.
My modem is a US Robotics Sportster Flash 56k. I'm using
IE5, no security patches. My boot drive and the drive where
the application resides is a Maxtor 10GB 7200rpm UDMA drive
(Maxtor 91000 D8).

Hi-

I had the same problem. I registered the product with my activation
code, closed it down, re-opened the product and it looked for the
activation code again. I could not get it to work after re-entering
the product activation code 8 times.

Then I unistalled the product, re-installed the product, used the
activation code as the first code and the product worked successfully
after that. It did not prompt me for another code after that and I
have had the product on my machine for more than 30 days. I think
its fixed and I'll keep my fingers crossed.

By the way, I don't think its platform specific because I am running
Windows 2000.

This is the first Sonic Foundry app I had a problem registering and
it kind of ticked me off. I had to pay for phone support for a
product I paid $600.00 for... and did not get the support I needed.
I had to figure it out on my own. I tried e-mail but after my first
reply from Sonic Foundry, I figure human contact would be more
effective.

Good luck. Hope you figure it out.

Vegas is great product like all the other Sonic Foundry products but
the support... they need to work on the support.

Rich
