Vegas Pro 8.0 getting stuck (bug)

I have done several Vegas projects by using audio material that resides on a networked drive. Occasionally I run into a problem: Vegas runs normally at first, but If I switch out of Vegas to another program, then back to Vegas, it gets stuck. It displays the hourglass cursor for several seconds, then resumes, but if you try to do anything (like, click on the screen), it gets stuck again. It's practically impossible to do anything. The delays are so long Windows adds "Not Responding" to the program description.

This doesn't happen always, and I am yet to reproduce the exact conditions. I observed Vegas with File Monitor, though, and it appears to be re-reading the files in the Project Media list into memory over and over and over again.

Has anyone else run into this?

By default, Vegas Pro closes all of the open files in your project when it is not the active application. When you give Vegas focus again, it has to re-open all those files and refresh the timeline thumbnails, which can take a while if you have many media files in your project.

Also, files that are in Project Media but not opened in the timeline will also be re-opened.

You can improve performance by doing either or both of the following:
1. Clean up your Project Media by clicking the "Remove all unused media from project" button (looks like a lightning bolt).
2. In Options -> Preferences -> General, uncheck "Close media files when not the active application". Vegas will keep the media files open when you switch to another program.
