Comparing Vegas

I will be upfront about my motives: the link to this post and the answer will get me extra credit for my digital media class.

Besides Sony Vegas, what are 2 other professional sound editing programs in use by Major Motion Picture Studios today?

I don't know what professional studio would use Vegas for *sound* editing, but I am young and naive and the school probably doesn't want to buy Soundforge/booth.

ProTools HD is probably the largest installed base in the 'pro"' studio.

In Europe Nuendo is very popular for Audio for Video Post production.

"Vegas for *sound* editing"

I think it would be better if you defined what you actually meant by that.

Afterall, I could certainly build a whole soundscape within Vegas with ease, with music, effects, automation, multichannel sound etc. But would I use it for surgery on a specific audio file - no (personally), that's where I would switch into SForge.

Same's true when I am using Nuendo4, I I still utilise SForge for the fine surgery. (but then, I am in Europe :) ) hehehehe.

Kwizzy,

Vegas was originally created as a program for audio editing and production, so I'm sure there are some studios that knew Vegas as an audio app before it became known for video.

Good luck with your assignment.

But that is the 'loose' definition of editing.
