Vegas Tutorials, Uploads, Resources, etc.

Hey guys and gals,

I plan to get Madison Library back up and running. Madison Library is a website for Sony Creative Software users (be it Vegas, DVD Architect, ACID, etc) to quickly and easily store and retrieve useful resources for free, such as tutorial and example documents, videos, and anything else that would benefit the community.

Some preface; At the time that I launched the relatively short-lived Madison Library I did not actually own the domain, and since the owner let it expire, it died. A less-than-exceptional summer job, an eye condition, and the fact that when the site expired all of the data was completely lost, all together really knocked my spirits, so I wasn't eager to immediately put the site back up. However, I was able purchase the domain back for myself. Once I got my new amazing, chippery-fantastic dream job, and got back on my feet I came back to the forums here, but I hesitated on bringing the site back so I could make something better.

My plan; I'm going to build the site myself, and not use phpBB again, which contained far too many confusing and unnecessary features. I have considered a wiki, but I still think that's more than what is needed. I'm hoping that some of you here will be interested in using the site as I build it, helping push the site in a direction that benefits us all. In particular, some folks were at first confused by the fact that Madison Library ran phpBB, forum software, and they were concerned that I was creating a competitive forum. That was not the case, but I wanted to remind everyone again that it's a resource, not a forum.

I'll start by putting together a basic page for uploading files, where uploaders can attach information regarding the upload (is it a document, video, etc, is it a tutorial, an example, etc, is it for vegas, acid, soundforge, etc). Next I would like to add tagging functionality so that the community could tag things, add keywords, write comments, and any of those types of things. After that, I'm interested in creating a web tool that helps folks who want to write tutorials or explain software features, however I'll take on one thing as it comes.

With all of that said, I would love to hear some of your feedback and suggestions.

I'm totally ignorant on how websites and forums work, so take this with a grain of salt.

I wish we could have a choice on whether the 1st to last post comes up or last to 1st post. Or a choice like 'All Posts" or 'The last 10 posts, newest first' (with another option to go back 10 more, when you get to the 10th).

I would like that for this forum too.

A $50. rebate every time I use it. ......... jk

What you're asking about would be a forum feature, and not a resource for the forums (eg, file uploading, tutorializing, etc). Of course, I wrote a tool that sifts through these forums that you can check out at madison.thewikies.com/igoogle/. Also, I could try to write a customized one that suits your needs.

Glad to hear that you are bringing your web-site back to life. :-)
