Logitech side scrolling mouse won't work - Vegas 7

Thought I'd treat myself to a new mouse on birthday the other day. I was specifically after a side scrolling mouse as I figured it would improve my workflow enabling me to edit a lot quicker, mostly for working in Vegas. The Microsoft Intellimouse with the tilt wheel was a bit tricky to track down anywhere, so I ended up buying a Logitech MX 400 with the same features for a bit less.

Unfortunately the side scrolling part of the mouse won't work at all in Vegas 7. I thought maybe it's because Vegas 7 is a bit old, so I then tried it in the latest version of Soundforge 9 that was released only a few weeks back. But no, it doesn't work there. Acid 6, no, doesn't work there either.

It does work in internet browsers though, most other common programs and even a download program I use that's over 3 years old. So it does work as it should in most programs.

I thought the side scrolling would be a standard protocol that any app would recognise, Vegas included. Is there any way I can make this work in Vegas? I know key commands can be changed, but mouse functions? The Logitech settings app doesn't allow for application specific settings either.

Go on line and look for the most recent driver for the mouse. This could be the problem.

Probably nothing to do with your situation, but some of the functions of my optical wireless would not work when I had it connected to a KVM switch.

I have a Kensington Track ball pro (big ball in the middle, scroll ring around it and four push buttons around that).

The software allows for me to assign tasks to the buttons. This sped up my workflow tremendously. For instance, one button is control and the other is "s" so I never have to use the keyboard for those two, I can just use the mouse. All buttons and scroll wheel work fine with mine- that is with Windows xp though. I cannot get the software to program the buttons to run on Vista 64. I called Kensington and they said they have no intention on updating their software at this time to "play nice" with 64 Vista.

Thanks for the replies. The latest software didn't work, so I guess my best option is assigning different functions to each button. I just need to find the right settings that will work the same in other programs.

If you install Setpoint 4.4 from Logitech you can assign the scroll tilt buttons to j,k,l. That allows you to scroll the timeline at any speed.

1) Ensure correct mouse is selected in box 1
2) In box 1a Manage Programs to browse to Vegas
3) Select the button you want to customise (left scroll)
4) Select Keystroke Assignment
5) In box 3a enter "j" (or whatever keystroke you want)
6) click apply and it works.

I just did it. Thank you
