I can't see how to side chain/duck in Acid because I can't see how to route a track to the 'keying' track.

No.

There are some third party plugs that can allow this to work in some situations. Your milage will vary.

There is no ACID 7, so no.

I haven't tried any of them yet in Acid6, but plug-ins with external side chain capability include:

- db Audioware's VST Sidechain Compressor

- Twisted Lemon's VST SidekickV3 sidechain compressor

- Blue Cat Audio's VST/DirectX Dynamics.

Some other compressor plug-ins mention side chaining, but appear to have only "internal" side chain filter, as used for de-essing.

Does anyone have experience with any of these -- good, bad or otherwise?
