MPEG from what source? Having no issues with ripped MPEGs, HDV, XDCAM files.

Not all mpg's, but I am having problems with certain mpg's that work fine in 7 but don't recognize audio in versions 8 and 8a.

I'm having trouble with MPGs from specifically Digital Juice - Presenter's Toolkit. I have no problems with other DJ files.

Perhaps you may have to update Quicktime 7.
I had the same problem with DJ files until I did this.

I have updated to quicktime 7.2. Now when I click on the files from the V8P explorer I get the message "The file is an unsupported format." I also reinstalled V7e and cannot open the files either. I can open the files with Media Player and quicktime. Any suggestions?

Try renaming your problem .mpg files with a .vob file extension.

This is a problem we are already aware of, renaming the file extension is a workaround that should work. We are working with MainConcept to fix this issue.

Thanks!
Uh... (A little latitude from the forum would be appreciated.)
I just started using Vista Home Premium. I have been trying to rename my files and the only thing that is renaming is the name, but it won't let me rename the extension. This is new. It's not DOS 6 or Windows 3.1 on my 286. IT KILLS ME TO ASK, BUT...
What is the new way to rename the extension?

The default behavior for Windows explorer these days is to hid extensions for known file types. Personally i think this is very annoying and somethat dumb. In explorer go to Tools / Options / View, and uncheck "hide extensions for known file types". After that you'll see and be able to change the extensions.

Thanks,
Thegood news is I renamed the extensions, thank you, the bad news is after renaming the files I can no longer view them from the V8P explorer. I opened up a window and tried to drag and drop from the window. I was able to that with avi files but the renamed files are having no success. Again; I get the unsupported file notice. I opened the mpg files in powerpoint, media player, and quicktime and they worked fine.

Hurry, MainConcept, Hurry! The writers are going on strike and my editing job will have to wait while I do my dry cleaning business. I don't want to have to"IRON WHILE THE STRIKE IS HOT!"

try this. When you open the insert media in vegas 8, in the dropdown box that shows all types of files to import, click the "all file" .vob files will show up, then you can import them.

I'm missing a step. When I right click on the track I see Insert Generated Media and text media. When I click on the insert tab I don't see the Insert media option. What step am I missing?

Perhaps Charlie means File / Import, although File / Open will have the same option too.

Thanks for the suggestions. They still bring the same response of file format not supported. I guess my new HP Quadcore is not compatible with that aspect of V8P. I can use other footage but I'd hare to think that I wasted money on the Digital Juice product. It only renders in MPG format and doesn't give an option for any others. The jumpbacks are great and so is the music. But this Presenter's toolkit is not paying for itself yet. Oh well, something to look forward to with the next update.
