ProType titler Forum ??

Since there is as yet no detailed manual for the ProType titler and seeing how the ProType titler is so complex and contains so many intricate possibilities and has potential for so much development in future versions -- would it be a good idea to have a separate forum (at least temporarily) - I think the posts to such a forum would create more interest than CInescore.

Xcellent idea, I was just coming here for help on that very subject.

Can I third this motion !

4th! Maybe if there is a lot of response to this thread, they'll do it!

Add me, that's 5, and one more than the Vista forum :P

I 6th it. The Titler is so complex and so different than the rest of Vegas's GUI that this really does make sense.
Distorshun wrote on 9/21/2007, 12:25 PM
I 7th it, and I haven't even bought V8 yet. Still messing with the trial version...

8th!

Possibly even a Sub-Category of the Vegas forum?
RogerB1 wrote on 9/21/2007, 1:02 PM
8th vote here! Hope is comes soon. I know I need it. :o)

the more i dig in to titler...the more ignorant I feel. The vegas forum has likely been the greatest help in learning vegas, I feel that a forum for titler would be just as valuable.

I'll ninth the motion.
All in favour?
Opposed?
Well then, the motion is carried!
Madison, and Mr. Sony,---the forum has spoken!!!
We want another forum to learn the finer points of ProType.
Ain't information age democracy wonderful?
TheHappyFriar wrote on 9/21/2007, 4:46 PM
no. it will turn out like the dvda forum barely be used.

Count me in too. I will be lurking here with the rest of you!
Cheers, Michael

I think there should be some basic video lessons that can be downloaded that show you how to get started with everything. Those with money can always buy those expensive DVDs showing you how to get intricate with something, but some basic lessons on everything would be so much nicer than having to figure out what the written instructions are trying to tell you.
Sony could sell VCDs for pennies that could get us started on any function. It doesn't need to be high quality HD video, just good enough to see and understand.
Hell, they could probably get most of us to volunteer to make the sections and they most likely, wouldn't even have to pay. I'd bet most would offer to do this for free, just for bragging rights.
It would be another lure, from the other NLEs, because "We show you how to do it, too"
(add $10. to the price to include these with your order of Vegas).

For what it's worth, the ProType Titler includes its own help file, which is built into the main Vegas help.

There are two ways you can get to the ProTypeTitler help topics:

(1) When Vegas is running, press F1 to start the online help. In the “What’s new in version 8.0” topic, click the ProType Titler link (it’s the third row in the table that lists the new features). You’ll jump to an overview topic, and the Contents tab will open to the "Using the Pro Type Titler” book, which contains more topics you can browse.

(2) If you have the ProType Titler plug-in open, just click the ? button near the top-right corner of the Video Media Generators window. The ProType Titler help file will open, and you can use the Contents or Index tab on the left side of the help window to find the information you’re looking for.

We continue to develop the ProType Titler help, and we'll be adding new information and examples.

I hope you find the information useful.

Kevin -
Thanks..There is a lot of interest, as you can see, in ProType Titler. Most of us, by now, are aware of the help available but can't get all the answers there or prefer a forum for help. Why have a forum for Cinescore? It has plenty of help built in? A specific forum, at least temporarily, would be welcome by many on the Video forum as we all learn about ProType and how to use it creatively, effectively and efficiently. I don't have to go into the good it can do in promoting VP8. Is it such a big deal to create a forum? What's the downside if it bombs? Whatta ya say Kevin? -- Can do?

I've added a couple of ProType sections to my web page if people want to start posting there.

All good points, Paul--I'll pass the suggestion along.

In the meantime, thanks to all for your interest and enthusiasm--we appreciate it.

Happy editing,

I believe ProType was made by someone else, someone who has only one button on the mouse. I think it was rushed into Windows - possibly by the Sony crew. Market strategy (=haste) forbade Madison to adapt it fully to the Vegas user interface. Probably because of all the people who have complained about Vegas text generator not having enough bells and whistles buttons.

I also believe that Madison is working on the full integration of ProType into Vegas and its UI. I mean, of course! When that happens, a dedicated ProType forum will be of much less interest.

Spot said in an earlier post that it was developed by Sony not a third party. At least that is how I understood it to be.

One more for the study-share and get-great-at-PT party.

Sony, are you reading us...? :)

Pro Titler is developed, as far as I can see, in C#, and from what others have said, it is developed by Sony. Perhaps it is a sign of things to come. Sadly it was rushed a little to the market.

Some issues

The thing keeps blinking and blinking and blinking and flashing and.... Please stop.

The user interface takes a little bit of getting used to, which is OK, it is in areas not at all up to Vegas standards, which is not OK. As someone pointed out, we've had more than one mouse button on the PC since the first mouse came out.

It crashes a little too easily, but in non-predictable ways, and with big nasty C# stack traces. That is a little bit on the amateurish side of things. Shouldn't really allow stack traces to show up in the user interface. Catch exceptions and handle them says I.

Hey, Sony, there are windows standard key strokes that works EVERYWHERE, well, except in the titler. If I press Ctrl+A, select all my text for goodness sake.

Oh, when I click on something on the timeline, like the text, show it please. I shouldn't have to move way out on the timeline just to see what I am editing. Example, drop one of the collections on the timeline. If I am on frame 0 (relative), how can I edit the text? Most systems I have seen, when I select the text, drop in a text box with no effects etc. That makes sense.

Again, standards please. If I double click a word, select it. If I triple click a line, select that line.

Hey, guys, I use the mouse to move stuff around to APPROXIMATELY where I want them. Then I select them and use the arrow keys to put it EXACTLY where I want them. This is the only tool I have used in years where I can not move a selected object using arrow keys.

Some nice things...

Well, it's a cool titler.
I really like that I can see the font changes in real time on my text as i browse the fonts.
It's a cool titler.

Great post, Terje. Very simple things (I'm not suggesting they're simple to program, just simple to describe) that should made to conform in the next version. But I couldn't help a wry grin at the irony of Sadly it was rushed a little to the market. when so many people claim to have been waiting centuries for an improved titler. :)
