Teleprompter

I need to purchase a small teleprompter for in studio use. We own software, so that won't be necessary. I'm frustrated with using a home built system and ready to step up to something more professional! I've looked at quite a few on the net, but would like to draw on someone's experience before I buy.

Anyone have a good recommendation?

Thanks.

I don't understand--you want a stand-alone teleprompter, or you want something that runs on a laptop or computer screen?

From one Michael S to another let me tell you what I am now doing. I put by VO narrative on a Vegas video time-line, in sync with the action of course, and output it to a monitor for recording VO.

I bought a unit from Ikan at NAB.
Basically a smallish LCD monitor and arm to mount it off a camera hotshoe. Came with some half decent software to run in a laptop.
Works as advertised,
You could just buy a monitor and a long Noga arm to do much the same thing really.
Upside, should work with almost any camera. No glass in front of the camera so no risk of upsetting the image, having the camera focus on grot on the glass etc. This could be a big issue with HDV.

Downside, the talent will not be looking directly into the lens. Probably a plus in my book. Add another one or two bigger LCDs on stands around the set would help too I think.

I bought the 17" version from prompterpeople.com and love it. Dependable and easy to use.

Ditto, and great service from Prompter People too.

Ditto that last "ditto." We use a teleprompter from Prompter People and as was said, they are very good to work with when any issue(s) may arise.

We went with AVD rather than prompter people becuase of difficulties with the mounts. On the units we have from Prompter People, the plates interfere with remote focus and zoom cables. AVD machined plates to match the configuration without hesitation.
