on the upgrade page, you can pay $149 for the mail option and it includes ...'manuals.' or you can add $15 to the download price and get '...guides." same thing or not? Sony?
What is the difference between Vegas Pro (Packaged) and Vegas Pro (Download) with Vegas Pro Optional Shipped Components. They appear to calculate out (it's basic addition) to the same price, but the descriptions are slightly different.
In particular "Includes Vegas Pro application DVD, quick start manuals, and keyboard shortcut lists."
Versus "Includes Vegas Pro application DVD, quick start guides, and keyboard command shortcut lists. Shipping charges may apply."
for the extra $20 (15 + 5 shipping), I ordered the 'optional components, just so I'd get the box and dvd... whenever I burn dvds myself I have a heck of a time finding them again, I'm buried in thousands of them around my office... at least a box makes it easier to find it if I need it again..
that's an interesting question though, eg since it activates by phoning home over the internet, can I install it on my main workstation plus a secondary/laptop etc? we should ask re how many installs we get...
I don't know if there's an official limit, but I've always found Sonic Foundry/Sony to been very generous regarding multiple installations of their software. I generally keep them installed on my main studio system and my home system for after-hours work, but I've never had any questions asked when re-installing on new computers---something that can be a major ordeal with some companies.
I believe the license deals with concurrent use. Somebody that has clicked through the full install from a download could update. I always have Vegas on my notebook, where I am currently typing this, and my main system. Since they are never used at the same time, I am always complying with the license. I think a lot of people doing this line of work have the location machine, and the main system, so it seems reasonable to license to multiple platforms for an individual user.

Question
Can I run my Sony Media Software application on more than one PC?
Answer
Our licensing agreement permits you to install the software on as many machines as you own, as long as you are not running the programs at the same time. For instance, you can install the software on your home machine and on your laptop. You are not allowed to install the software on multiple machines if you are going to be using them simultaneously, such as in a home studio setting. If you are going to run the software concurrently on more than one machine, you would need to purchase a separate license for each computer.
Note that when you install the software on a different computer you will need to complete the registration process again. Register the software as you did the first time to unlock the program on each machine. You can register online directly within the software, via the phone, or on our website through our online form.
Wow! Got the upgrade email from Sony and it's less than I thought it would be. I skipped 7 so this will be a decent upgrade for me. If the titler is half as good as it sounds it will be worth it.
