Does Vegas have a 'Mixing' panel display?

We are setting up a small 16 to 24 track recording studio and are new to using Vegas for audio recording.. We have Vegas 5.0.

Does Vegas have a 'Mixing' panel display for audio recording or does everything just record on individual tracks?

How do you control levels on each track or channel?

Do you have any other controls on each track as you record... eq, effects, etc?

If Vegas does not have a software mixing panel do you guys think we need one?

thanks for any help.

Yes it has a mixer with master fader and where you can add busses. And yes the tracks have volume, pan and efx levels. Apparently you haven't reviewed the manual - all of the questions you ask are clearly explained there.

Yep, tis true. I haven't read the manual for audio.

We use Vegas for video and I just slammed out a few questions to get us quick started here.

I'm sure if I read the manual first, then Googled every question, there would never be a need to post a question... or almost never.

I really appriceate your assistance... it saves time and really helps.

thanks,

Will

It has an output section that looks like a conventional mixer but the only 'mixer' section is the faders, pan and bus sends on the left of each track.

Having said that they offer quite comprehensive control and you able to view and select any parameter that you can automate, including plugins, 'rubber bands' in the timeline.
Each track is automatically assigned EQ, Compression and noise gate but other FX can be assigned as required.

The faders will automate levels but this can also be done by editing the volume curve in the timeline. You will first need to right click in the track fader area and select which automation curves, such as volume, pan etc, you want to see. You don't need to be able to see them to automate levels but it can make simple level changes a whole lot easier.

Without wishing to tell you to 'read the manual' if you call up the Help files it will expain how to do the things I've briefly mentioned and a whole lot more.

BTW I use a Mackie Control twith Vegas for mixing but it isn't a prerequisite to have a hardware console to mix.

No, it doesn't have a panel that looks like a mixer. It doesn't need one by virtue of the way it works - a mixer panel would be redundant. That's the BEAUTY of Vegas.
