As I'm sure you are all aware... Final Cut Studio 2 isout:
http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio <-- videos of FCS2 in action.

As you can see, it ships with some AWESOME Professional Looking Templates that you can customize to suite your needs.

- Is there a place where you can buy/download Templates OF THIS CALIBER for Vegas?

Yeah... $1300 for the program and another 2 or3 thousand for a Mac. Why not just get Avid express Pro. It starts at about $1700 and IMO, does a heck of a lot more than FC.

I did notice that fc FINALLY added 5.1 sound.

My opinion on FC.... a little overrated.

agreed.. FCP is prolly THE most overated application on the market, and i guesss this is from the fact that its really only one of 2 real workable NLE's available for the platform... save for the adobe suite which has now gone back to being made available to Macsters..

i really dont see any benefit in comparing ... if it works for you, and ur happy to jump ship go for it..

as for 5.1, its one thing to have it availble to you its another thing to know how to use it..

to give you an idea, according to Dolby Labs, theres only a handful of production companies who are licensed with Dolby Labs TSA's here in Aus... we're literally talking as many as u can count on your hands..
It goes to show that so many people like to lay claim on having this ability to produce 5.1, but none are too pleased to have to put thier work up for scrutiny when it comes to licensing... hence the lack of licensed producers
To me if anyone claimed they could do 5.1, i'd ask them for a TSA first, if they cant provide, i would take their claims with a grain of salt
It goes

- I already have a Mac.
- I'm not jumping ship, I edit w/ Vegas, FCP, Premiere Pro, & Avid Adrenaline... depending on where I am.
- Here in our Edit Bay we have Vegas, FCP, & Premiere Pro... Avid Adrenaline at the Studio.
- I'm not concerned w/ 5.1 sound in FCP or any other NLE... I have programs to do that if/when need be.
- EVERYTHING Apple makes is overrated... but I think that means they do a good job at advertising.
- I'm NOT downing Vegas... I use it on tons of projects but I still go to FC Studio or Adobe Production Bundle to make Cool 'Bumpers' or 'Intros'.
- I own a Ford & a Chevy.

* My question of Templates for Vegas/Sony Media Software stems from the Cool & Professional Looking Templates that ship with Final Cut Studio. It really adds a lot to your productions and cuts down on production time & costs. Since I/we handle more than just 'Editing'... little things like this really help a lot.

Although I've seen people share their .VEG's... they tend to look pretty 'Amateurish' in comparison to the Templates that ship with FC Studio.

-- Anyone know of any Professional 'Templates' for Vegas?

The main problem is templates designed for paying customers are costly to
produce and can't be shared, and in my case NDAs prevent me from even
describing them.

I do wish there were more websites with some broad ideas. We all have
memory blocks. DigitalJuice.com has DJTV which they describe technics for design.

Can you describe the FC templates without violating intellectual property rights?
Converting them to vegs would be I'm sure.

I have to whole heartedly agree with this. I have used the templates in the different Final Cut version as inspiration because they are sexy and very professional looking. 99% of the things out there for free or cost for Vegas pretty much suck.

I have posted a few times that I would pay for high quality veg files, but nobody has any. I am waiting for the day that someone does create some sexy/professional/mac-ish looking veg files for me to plop down some green bills and get.

I know most anything is possible because I have been able to re-create almost anything out there w/ vegas. The problem is that Vegas is a hobby for me. If it were my business I would find a way to create veg files to use for business and allow others to buy them. For example, I'm sure there are projects for a local soldering company in Maine where they wouldn't mind someone having a similar looking intro for a pony ranch company in Texas's marketing intro.

Someone do it and make some money....

What is a "mac-ish" looking .veg file? Something that looks like the Mac UI? If so, keep them away from me. The Mac UI is terribly busy and annoying. I wouldn't ever want to watch a video like that.

Or do you mean a .veg file that looks like projects done in software that runs on a Mac? These wouldn't really have anything to do with the Mac, though, would they? Couldn't they be produced on any platform regardless of OS?

I also have to question the viabliity of creating template .veg files. What is it about the .veg file that makes the project look professional and polished? Isn't it much more what media you put into it? Just because cutting event A here, crossfading to B here, adding this effect to C and titling it with D ... looked good to the person designing it with their own media, that doesn't mean it will look good or even be useful at all with the media you're using in your project.

I think it is a given that "mac-ish" means the end result of many mac products. I am very pro M$ for many reasons and unless things greatly change will never own a mac, but nobody can deny that MAC is synonymous w/ SEXY on almost everything they do...

Nobody here thinks you need a mac to get sexy video results. The original question is...why doesn't there exist some SEXY templates for Vegas....

Here are a few that I made, some DIRECTLY influenced (aka copied w/ slight changes) from some actual MAC templates...

Feel free to download and use, royalty free. I posted one of these earlier and immediately received a couple emails from people asking me to join their design team or make more for them. I can't because of time constraints. Also, I know there are MANY people out there that can do better work and quicker...but for some reason there isn't a place to go and buy more of these. I feel pretty strongly that if someone did this they could make some good money, so sorry if this post comes off as pushy, but I can't believe that some struggling wedding videographer doesn't put his time into this.

Sorry for all the edits...it took a while to figure out how to post links now that I can't use regular HTML tags.

THANK YOU cheroxy, but when I try to open these vegs in Sony 6, I get an unsuported format error message.
cheroxy wrote on 7/12/2007, 12:02 PM
Sorry, they are all version 7. I wish we could "save as" to an older version...

1B - 1E - 1F <-- For Sure.
These are very 'Mac-ish'. (It's a shame that when people hear 'Mac' they automatically get defensive.)

- On the FCP Studio side... they have 'Drop Zones', where you just 'Drop' your media and it replaces.
- For us on the Vegas side... we can just do a 'Replace Media'

It would definitely be nice if someone offered design packages like this. The cost of buying a design package would be minimal when you compare it to the time it would take you to build it from scratch.

Not only is it a thing of Time to Build... but also, a thing of constantly Generating a New Idea. With Templates, you can open it up, alter it, and you quickly have something.

You guys can take a look at some of the things I've done here:
http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?videos=23726&T=7575

They are a combination of projects done in Vegas, Premiere Pro, Avid, & FCP.
(Can you can tell which project was done in which NLE?)

Jade Auto Clinic - Shop Profile (Corporate) & K & M Unibody Works - Shop Profile (Corporate) both contain FCP Studio Template Media that I altered. The time savings for using Template Media moved me from 10 hour days to 6 hour days. Not only because of the work but also because of the Render times. With the CP Studio Templates there is only 1 layer... not the 5 -15 layers I have in Vegas when compositing.

Excellent work sync2rhythm!

Did you do the eagle point all in vegas(ie-the page roll of the still photos)? It looked like some of it was AE.
The rotating circle image looked like something from Halo 2.

I looked at a few others...great examples of professional cool effects in a lot of those videos.
