Get Forums Updates on Your Homepage!

I created a Google Gadget for people who want to see updates to the Sony Creative Software Forums on their iGoogle Homepages.

You can add this Google Gadget to your Google Homepage by going here.

You can customize which forums you want to read too. So for instance, if you just want to read the Vegas - Video forums, click the down arrow in the upper-right hand corner of the gadget and then click on Edit Settings. From there you should be able to re-title the gadget and specify which forum you would like to monitor.

Let me know what you think. :)

it would be bloody fantastic, if only you could choose which forum you wanted updates on.

hey, you're a wonder for doing it anyway....

This is great. I just added it to my iGoogle page and got the following error on the new window:

Error parsing module spec:
Error in module spec:
UserPref 1: only datatype="enum" can have an EnumValue

Ey, that Google is a fickle one. I tried updating the gadget to add a "select your forum" feature, however, and not only did the gadget stop working, but it took nearly 15 minutes to return back to normal after I removed the offensaive code. So, in the meantime, just enjoy what it DOES do. I'll worry about more features later.

Can you devise a "gadget" that removes posters I don't want to read?

Great device! I, too, would love to choose some of the other forums, e.g. Sound Forge. When guys do great work, someone always wants more, don't they. Take this as encouragement. Nice job. If you get time to fool with it further, a lot of us will be very appreciative.

Well done Jonathan. Excellent!

Thanks Grazie, and everyone. I made a few improvements to make it look more like the gmail alerts, and also fixed a bug (only one or two posts showing up) that was occurring due to plain buffoonery in the code on my part.

I'm going to be separately testing to give the gadget the ability to monitor only a specific forum. We had a few problems (scroll up) while I was testing on the live version. This one should remain stable, and I won't make any changes until I've had proper time to test them.

Hey, I just wanted to give one extra heads up (sorry for the double-post) that I've changed the URL for my gadget, and I've added support for monitoring specific forums. Everything will be run from here now. The new URL is:

http://www.google.com/ig/add?moduleurl=http://madison.thewikies.com/igoogle/scsf.xml.

I've also updated my original post to reflect these changes, and I think I'll share this with some of the other sub-forums.
