Simple question I am sure: I have 2 and 3/4 hours of mini dv video that I want to put onto dvd. Can I somehow compress that to fit on a standard dvd, or do I have to use a dual layer dvd? Thanks to anyone who takes the time to help!
Yes you can. It's just a matter of setting the bitrate appropriately when making the MPEG2 file. You can take a look at Vol 1 #7 of my newsletters for a bitrate chart. Naturally, the lower the bitrate the bigger the risk that the image will look worse. It depends on what the footage is as well.
You can do it by altering the bitrate for the MPEG-2 stream.
My calculator gives me the following date:
CBR - 3,400,000
VBR - 6,800,000 - 3,400,000 - 2,500,000
Only you can decide if the quality hit is acceptable.
I'd render out a small portion with these settings and then decide.
I tried to access the article in your newsletter and when I click on vol.7, it just takes me to a page with a list of what is in vol. 7, not the article itself. What did I do wrong?
