OT: Using the PD170

Hello all, I'm using a PD170 for a wedding shoot, My question is I know the PD 170 is DVcam/DV, Can I get away with using Mini DV's? I have to shoot on that camera? Please help I have a lot of mini dv's and I don't want to fork out more money to use DVCam tapes. Thank you.

Video quality is the same.

Yes, you can use MiniDV tapes. You can record them in either DV or DVCAM mode. The image quality is identical in both modes. DVCAM mode runs the tape faster using wider video tracks for better dropout protection, however it will only record for 40 minutes on a 60 minute MiniDV tape. I assume that you want the full 60 minutes of record time, so make sure the PD170 is set to DV mode and, while you're at it, check that the audio is set for 48k 16bit and not 32k 12bit.
