My Dewline buddy is running it and his super duper buddy in the thick of the business is running it with I think Mac OS, XP, 2000, & Linux and they are all ga-ga over it. They said it's better than apple pie and Chevrolet. Today's paper had it written up with the new "Cohesion" option and they were raving about it. Everything is booted up and you just click the icons and they said after a while you don't even know what OS you are using. They are all saying that this is the biggest most bestt-est thing for computers ever. They are treating this as like having Jill St John and Cat Women for a week at their disposal. Dam, it's got to be good. They also said the MAC Boot-Camp isn't worth a dam. My buddy also said that XP runs faster on the MAC with Parallels. They also bad-mouthed Bill Gates. They always do.

Still got a buzz lingering from the weekend JJ?

Forgot to mention that they are using Mac computers and that with all of those OS's on it it is rock solid. I am sure they are not using Vegas. No, no booze, just binary extacy.

I use it all the time in parallels. Though I have never captured. I'm at a post house and all our stuff is already on disk. The fact that you only get to 'see' one CPU is a bit of a problem, I hope they fix that in a future release.

But it is a good enough solution that I will never purchase another Dell. Nobody comes close to the quality of hardware that apple makes. Not even close.

Matt,

I'm waiting for a response from Parallels. So far I cannot find out if the firewire is supported yet. I'll probably just do the bootcamp routine for now. Capture issues aside, I'm pretty impressed that the emulation or whatever Parallels is using is running XP and software so stably.

From the parallels web site:

By enabling you to use your existing Apple Boot Camp partition in a Parallels virtual machine, without having to reinstall Windows or any applications, Parallels gives you the flexibility to work with Windows using the tool that’s most appropriate for the job. Use Windows in Parallels for day-to-day productivity tasks, then switch to Boot Camp to play a 3D game. Switch back and forth between Parallels and Boot Camp as many times as you'd like!

Parallels Desktop for Mac doesn't support Express Card, Bluetooth and Firewire device connections to your Virtual Machine.

I can't get Parallels to work, and ended up removing it. I'm told that the most recent version is stable and working as advertised, outside of working with 1394 drives.
the marketing of Parallels is one thing, I'd like to meet anyone actually using it as flawlessly as they claim. Scott Shepherd (Inside Mac) has a recent podcast in which he discusses Parallels and some issues, but it's a couple months old.

I'm using it on a 2ghz Macbook and it works pretty well. Been doing some basic audio editing in Vegas. Most of my time now is spent coding in Linux and I use Parallels to load Fedora Core, works flawlessly. I'll report back once I start doing more advanced video stuff in Vegas under Parallels.
