Help with effect

Hello

I have been trying to do an effect like split screen, then split again. The only way that I can think of is to use the same source video over and over and just create the individual splits. Seems like the hard way, and will be slow. Looking like the effect for the opening of 'Grand Prix' if anyone has seen that, with all of the splits running off the same source.

Any plug's that do that or an easy way in Vegas to get that effect?

Thanks

Sandy

I'm pretty sure there are some plugins, but not being a huge plugin fan unfortunately have to wait for someone else to chime in on that regard.

Otherwise using track motion or other common sense techniques in Vegas are about it. You *might* be able to cut your render times *slightly* by resizing your video in VIrtualDub, then importing the smaller frame size clips, but it's a bit more hassle setting up in Vegas.

Are you speaking of a "video wall"?

If so, and for this example let's keep it simple to say 2x2 = 4 videos.

Put 4 clips on 4 separate tracks - one on top of the other.

Use track motion to size & position Track 1. Repeat for the remaining 3 tracks.

You should NOW have a 4 Video Wall!

Others will come up with simpler/quicker methods of laying out the media, but in essence if you want a Video Wall, this is simplest way for me. However, I use Excalibur which has a Video Wall script within it! Now that IS easy-peasy!

Not so much the video wall, just each section of the screen with the same video clip. I can do it with some labor in bringing in the video multiple times and resize and place each one where it needs to be. Might be something I can find poke around in some of the plug in areas or 3rd party packs.

Since you're using the same vid, if they're all the same size, could cut the render time considerably I think by resizing your video first - otherwise Vegas is going to resize the same clip on each track it appears... 4x resizes vs 1

Sounds like you could use the cookie cutter for this - with the repeat image set to more than 1, you may be able to get a similar effect. It doesn't sound like you don't want a video wall as much as a mask that builds into multiple segments - revealing more of the underlying track as it goes.

However, cookie cutter is frustratingly difficult to customise, so you might achieve the same thing more quickly by building a series of masks.

Hope this helps

Ah! Now I understand!!!

OK - Yes to the multiple masks. Yes to Cookie Cutter. But CCut is not very flexible and is mostly concentric.

But, the real graphic way I would suggest would be to use the masks and either within Pan/Crop. OR multiple track masking ( create individual "frame" masks from Vegas SOLID colour MEdGen)where you have even MORE flexibility. Here you could apply FXs to each and every mask; combine overlaps; sequence the masks to music;group masks into Parent and Child relationships; have masks fly in and out in 3-D space . .. "The possibilities are ENDLESS"

Ah-hah! Now I understand . .. no, not a video wall! Lol!!! It was the "same video" comment that I latched onto. So it is the kinda "bars" on a window breaking up the SAME video. Gotcha!!

By George I think you got it :)

Thanks, I have not had much time this weekend to play more with it, but I'm going to start easy and see how far I can get. Sounds like not too much trouble, just some playing with how the Cookie Cutter works.

Thanks for all the suggestions folks
