Change from NUendo

I own Sonic Foundry, Acid, CD Architect, XFX 1-3 and Noise reduction. I've found them to be very well supported. I had Vegas 3.0 but when I needed ASIO support it wasn't implemented, so I went Nuendo.

I'm getting really peeved at Steinberg. On paper Vegas looks like it could be my new platform. ASIO and VST support. I presume DIrectX is still supported as well.

I'd be interested in insight from anyone who has switched. What surprises were there, How different is the workflow. Is the support better, etc.

If you liked Vegas 3 and all you needed was ASIO, then you'd probably be satisfied with the later versions. And yes, DX is still supported. However, if you read this forum in much detail, you'll see that Vegas has evolved into a video application with decent audio capabilities, especially editing. Vegas is missing a great many features that virtually all competitive audio apps now have and many audio only users have moved on to other pastures. Search the forum for details on this if you're interested. I'm still around because I'm addicted to the editing power of Vegas, and I'm used to the workflow and GUI. Frankly, I've been too lazy seriously explore other apps up to this point which is why here responding to your post. As always, the best advice is to download the demo and check it out.

Thanks. I'll have to get the demo.

I'm probably committed to Cubase/Nuendo for another year anyhow since I went for a special on Cubase 4.

I think you'll find Acid is emerging as Sony's DAW solution.
Version 6 is very solid and comparable to Vegas. I imagine Acid 7 will have all of the audio features of Vegas plus more.

I also started down the Sonic Foundry path...Vegas 2.0...Soundforge 5.0 etc etc...but I actually ditched Vegas for Nuendo and never looked back.

For heavy duty audio projects - Vegas cannot compete on Nuendo's level. In 4 different custom rig I have built over 6 years - Vegas always choked and seemed strained when the tracks/effects when past 14 or 15. Nuendo just keeps on going and going.

Also - Vegas does not support VSTi (instruments) so if you are doing any kind of work with soft synths...drum plugins..etc etc...Vegas is not the choice.

I still use Vegas for basic video work and at times - I do miss it's excellent editing capabilities - but for my workflow....Nuendo is in another league when it comes to audio processing.

If you are already a Nuendo user - you have all you will ever need.

Cheers!
