Sony rootkit again???

view3dtv wrote on 11/16/2006, 3:20 PM
I just upgraded my boot drive.
Now ALL sony applications say they are not installed properly.
My other applications are fine. Even including others that use "active activation".
Must be due to some sort of copy protection/rootkit/.
I am SO TIRED of software vendors treating customers like criminals!
Next I'm upgrading to windows xp (was w2k) should be interesting to see if I can get everything reinstalled and activated again.
Perhaps I'll send sony a bill for my time.

It's not a rootkit. The Sony apps registration is tied to the serial number of the drive on which it installed. Since you replaced your drive, you will need to reinstall your apps.

0 to outrage in 2.2 seconds. How about finding out the answer before jumping to all of those conclusions? You say you're tired of vendors having a knee-jerk response to customers, but then you turn right around and do the same thing to the vendors.

Pot.

Kettle.

Actually it was only 0 - 1 millisecond ... lol
well perhaps but when they cost me time... so it goes...
In the good old days you could buy software, install , done... no dna sample required.

Of course cant reinstall without uninstalling... ugh!
Wish they had a way you could insert your cd and then the software would recognize it's been moved and begin working again.

Legit paid copies

To my understanding you need to request new Boris serial# from BorisFX directly (at least if you have purchased the downloaded full version). Cannot remember how it works with LTD-versions though.

Just contact Boris support, they are very responsive and helpful.
