DVDA4 Not Burning Correctly

daryl wrote on 11/1/2006, 5:10 PM
I am having an odd problem with DVDA4. I bought a new system and fresh-installed all my software, including VV7 and DVDA4. I have been trying to burn a project that, after the burn, does not work on the PC or a stand-alone player. I tried various burn speeds and different media, all with the same results, LOTS of wasted discs. I just installed DVDA3, works great. Sony? Help?

I thought it was just me. They work on the computer that burned it with, but not on anything else.

I just asked that same question. Getting the smae problems, fine on the computer but not of the stand alone players.

What's up with this.

I got the upgrade from Vegas 6 to 7 for $135 and the DVDA included. I figured good deal because I was using DVDA 3 Studio, so the upgrade would be well worth the investment. But I can see I still have the same dilema: a DVD authoring application that doesn't work universally. I see from the past threads that some are using PCGEdit to fix the problem. I have downloaded the utility but I don't know how to use it. Any suggestions?

Roughly how many total discs have you burned on your burner?

After about 300 discs my burner, a Sony, started having coasters. Tried cleaning
disc, same issue. Replced the burner, no problems since.

I don't know there is a guarantee on how many discs you can burn with any certain
brand but since burners are getting quite inexpensive, worth trying.

It's a new drive, only burned 20 - 30 discs or so. DVDA3 works fine, so it's likely not a drive problem. I've made several with DVDA3 the last couple of days, not blips at all. SURELY DVDA4.0b will have some good fixes in it.
Did you get another Sony?

a DVD authoring application that doesn't work universally.

There are no DVD authoring applications that work universally for all things that you can do with a DVD. If there isn't a problem with the authoring software, then there's a problem with the DVD player - for example, some DVD players don't correctly implement counter registers - not a darn thing the authoring application can do about it; the responsibility is for the author of the DVD to make changes such that they don't universally need a counter register.

As far as PGCedit goes, you just need to load the compiled project, PGCedit will ask you if you want to fix the error, say "yes" and then save the project.

Be aware though that there are lots of other issues you can have that may prevent your DVD from playing. Using +R media on a player that only supports -R is an example.

Thanks Scott,
I tried the PGCedit. From what I gather in the small bits of information of how to use it I would :
1. compile my project with Vegas
2. In DVDA, where it says "Make DVD" I would PREPARE it.
3. Then, open it with PGC edit, and then make the corrections.
4. Open DVDA again and then burn it.

No???

That should work.

Remember to delete the temp directory that PGCedit creates off the VIDEO_TS directory before you burn.

I forgot, and ended up with a disc that wouldn't play.

I've not had any problems with DVDA4 in burning or in playing. I burn all my discs at 4 times (ritek media certified for 12x).

I tried the PGCedit and it did the trick. I deleted the extra commands that were put on. My disks are not more friendly towards different players and computers. Thanks for the tip.
