Mixdown and Sample Rate

Vegas Audio 2.0h

I have a project that was recorded at 24-bit/44.1kHz. For mixdown, I change the project settings to 88.2kHz.

Will I gain anything from doing this? I realize the original files are 44.1, but I figure with added effects, I could possibly take advantage of the higher rate. I realize that if this were true, the difference may not be heard. Thoughts?

I really wouldn't bother, unless you like wasting disk space.

Assuming all of your effects are fed from material at 44.1, what would they be generating that would benefit from 88?

More to the point, even if they did, it would be such a small component of the sound as to not bother with - unless your target audience all have REALLY nice listening equipment. Or will it be shoved on to ipod as a 128kb aac file...
