Where are the missing Sony audio plugins?

Jayster wrote on 9/12/2006, 7:17 PM
I loaded a V6 project in V7 and found some of the built-in Vegas 6 plugins aren't available from the plug-in manager.

For example, the Sony audio plugin called Graphic Dynamics is gone in the plugin manager. I am using it in this old project file. In the track FX dialog it says "Unregistered" at the top, but the control appear in the rest of the dialog. Try to choose it from the plugin manager, though, and it is gone.

In all, V7 shows 18 Sony plugins in the "Audio" category, while V6 shows 43 Sony Audio plugins. V6 is showing a bunch of ExpressFX plugins that I'm not sure if they were there before I installed V7.

Anybody else seeing this? What happened to all my audio plugins?

Also, and this may have a lot to do with it, there is a folder called "Shared Plug-Ins\Audio" that was there when only V6 was installed and now a bunch of its files have been replaced with newer versions. Is it possible V7 registered these plugins in the wrong part of the Windows registry, or they are somehow "associated" with V6 but not V7?

Interestingly enough, I find that all these ExpressFX audio plugins are listed in the registry in a key called:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sony Media Software\Vegas\7.0\DXCache

So if they are in a registry folder for Vegas 7, why do they appear in Vegas 6 but not in Vegas 7? (BTW: I am only reading the registry. I am not crazy enough to try to edit it unless Sony tells me exactly what to do).

This has to be some kind of bug. I shouldn't have 43 Sony audio plugins in V6 (many of them appearing only after V7 install) and only 18 in Vegas 6. (And these aren't 3rd party plugins, they are Sony plugins).

Can't help you but in comparing my V6 and V7 audio plugins side by side I see exactly the same ones and same number of audio plugins in both.

I just rebooted and the problem went away. I swear I was not hallucinating. But if the problem is gone, that's good enough for me. I'll just treat it as a UFO sighting...

Whew!

Still, one thing does occur to me. The audio plugin dlls in the Shared Plugins folder are now updated. Presumably if I fire up Vegas 6 and render an old project, they'll be using those newer dlls (what else could they use?). That means that maybe the audio engine in V6 will benefit?

No hallucination....Just upgraded V7a on two suites (separate licenses) and on both installs all audio plugins have disappeared.
Just to be sure, I installed a third time to the network render machine and all audio plugins gone!

Uninstalled V6d on one of the suites to see if I could somehow get plugins back but no success.

Re-installed V7a without V6d present and still no success.

Bug or just very bad luck?

Question to both you and Jayster -- are you doing a reboot after the Vegas install has completely finished? It's not uncommon for application installations to be "weird" after installation but before a reboot, particularly if you've already got another verssion of the same app on the computer.

Yikes.

So not only does Vegas 7 lack any significant new audio features, it actually removes some?!

I have the same problem:

V6.0d sees the plugins; V7.0a does not. I only get the three standard plugins and in the header in the plugin chain it says (Unregistered).

I tried rebooting, re-installing, re-registering. Nothing works.

What am I missing?

Don't know what's going on. Mine are fine, all there. Upgraded v4 to v5 to v6 to v7. Two machines.

There is a recommendation to delete the Sony install directories in Program Files after you install, maybe that has something to do with it, I don't remember.

Mine are fine too. Based on this thread, before I upgraded to v7a I uninstalled v6d and rebooted. Then I installed v7a, rebooted, and then installed v7b. I'm not at my editing system right now, but recall seeing 43 Sony audio plugins (I think this includes the 4 from NR2.0).

Same here no Sony Audio plug-ins, a couple of VST plug ins are there.
All other Audio Plug ins are Unregistered if I bring a V6 project in

I still have V6 installed

HELP..........

Have them back now..

Start V7 then quickly hold the CTRL & SHIFT button together and a dialogue box opens up, with do you want to reset to default values, click the Cached application data box as well then go for YES

(courtesy of Grazie)

Worked for me

It's a plesh - Cheems! No need to call me back now!!

But yes, glad it worked. HOWEVER!! Just as an acid test, close down and reopen. THEN try a reboot of PC too - just to be sure yeah?

Actually Cheems, no need to "quickly" hold down - just hold down the two KEYS and THEN fire up Vegas. Don't need to panic. Nice and Easy does it!

Hmmmm Zcheema I have a ctrl key BUT I cannot find the other one ANYWHERE on my keyboard!

LOLLLL ll l

Freudian SLAP by Prof. Cheems.

Personally I favour the "natural" water and high fibre diet . .. ;-)
Zulqar-Cheema wrote on 11/4/2006, 10:09 AM
Grazie I did hold the two keys as suggested but the program would not start.... eh.... The did the quick of the mark after starting and all was well in Vegas land.

Have shut the program down and re-started all was well, have not re-booted though.
Zulqar-Cheema wrote on 11/4/2006, 10:12 AM
The SHI* is now available as an optional extra when things hit the fan you have to use that key to get things moving again, as Grazie says High Fibre diet..
