This ad has been up for about a week and a half, although I don't remember the "September 2006" being there before.

But have any of the "old wrinkles" been ironed out yet?

>But have any of the "old wrinkles" been ironed out yet?<

Somehow I dont see that being in a press release....
"extensive repairs to previous version bugs"

; )

Come on Jay who cares,, you can render your carefully shot and edited project to play on a 3" screen, geeze,what more ya want ?

Duhh... what was I thinking!?

Wow, none of those NEW features appeal to me even a bit. Either i'm doing some old fashioned projects or previous version was more than plenty for me.

No XML output? Can we interchange with Avid and FCP and PP? I tend to doubt it.
Billae wrote on 9/1/2006, 12:52 PM
Yeah....Not much there, well maybe there is more than what we know.....I Hope!
winrockpost wrote on 9/1/2006, 12:59 PM
since the list of "new" features was only up for a minute before sony took it off, I hope there are more "new" features. If not, well those waiting in great anticipation...........Vegas 4 and 5 work quite nicely.
kddubb wrote on 9/1/2006, 12:59 PM
btw, I found this...it seems to have quite a few more details than I've seen in this forum:

ken c wrote on 9/1/2006, 1:35 PM
thx kddubb, that's the best list I've seen.. a few key points are:

Editing/Workflow Features

• New! Save and recall window layouts
• New! Flexible window docking
• New! Enhanced video previewing
• New! Improved cursor object “snapping”
• New! Support for XDCAM essence markers
• New! Envelope brush “painting”
• New! Enhanced keyboard mapping
• New! Improved project copy and trim operations

so at least it'll be a bit easier to use with layouts and window docking.

Looks like mostly cosmetic small improvements, nothing major.

But hey maybe hidden in the change list is something significant.

I wonder if sony will create a major new industry-leading platform set of changes w/Vegas sometime in the next couple of releases.. til then, I suppose it's good that they're making a lot of small incremental improvements.. but it's just taking too long, eg we waited all this time, for -this-? is my ongoing reaction to V5/V6 and now V7.

How dramatic are the improvements in other NLE platforms, release-to-release, or year-to-year? I'd like to dedicate myself to a software platform that's significantly supported by it's developer, vs a "hey let's go buy sonic foundry's NLE and brush it up a little bit each year to see how much $$ we can get from the faithful" current approach..

If thats all there is then I think that they are going to unplesantly surprised by how few people go for this update.
Yoyodyne wrote on 9/1/2006, 2:15 PM
I'm pretty happy with Vegas as is, (although I probably shouldn't say that out loud). This has me pretty stoked though:

"• New! Enhanced video previewing"

I'm hoping by "enhanced" they mean they pumped up the preview engine so I can get better HD preview. This would actually be pretty major for me if it does what I hope it does. Can't wait to check it out.
winrockpost wrote on 9/1/2006, 2:15 PM
I'm hoping there is more to the story,,, the leap from 2 to 3 ,and 3 to 4 was pretty significant, last couple of updates were lame. edius and PP are leavin vegas in the dust,, unless there is more to the story. I for one am hoping there is much more in this upgrade than a friggin ipod render.
come on vegas make a promoter of your product proud.
ken c wrote on 9/1/2006, 2:29 PM
exactly right winrock, agree 100%

But WAIT!!!

Can It BE?

Check this out, guys:

+ New! Export directly to PSP

==============

Wow!!!! I can export my videos Directly to PSP.... Geez I gotta upgrade fer sure..

==============

sigh. sony. get a clue. ok?

ken

this is puzzling, it says under Audio (only):
Audio Features
• New! Improved multi-processor support

but what we need is multi-processor support for video renders to go faster... don't know what it means... I'll be safe and assume it's mediocre.. again.

Yes Vegas 4 was a genial version and Vegas 5 was cool, but, but Vegas 6 not was neither fine, just some good.

Vegas 6 carried many critical bugs in the first release, 2 FX not worked and it was very criticed.

We hope what the version 7 comes with new effects, new tools, new horizons to get more efficence over tha others apps.

Vegas 6 is god ewditor but when i work with it, in feel working with Vegas 4, BECAUSE, between 4 and 6 version THERE IS NOT a huge difference.

Others software makes feel you the difference between a old version and the new version.

Please Sony, MAKE US FEEL the difference this time!!!!

God bless you.

A few things I noticed that are different:

"Includes support for high performance native HDV M2T playback"
--> sounds like tweaks for improved cpu performance in decoding. maybe GPU support? i hope!

<ignore this>
"Dual processor DV rendering support"
-->now that's big. DV has always been single threaded, hasn't it?
</ignore this>

Edited:
Duh, that last one was wrong, I believe. Just tested, and it cranked both my processors to the max.
