Sort of, but not exactly.

In the Burn CD dialog box, there's a checkbox to save a "temporary image file." I believe it's really meant as a "backup" in case the burn process doesn't go well or it needs some help. What you could do is check that box and select the radio button for Test only (Do not burn CDs). Then Vegas will create the image file but won't burn a CD. You need to have a blank CD in the drive, though Vegas won't put anything on it.

Caveats:

1. As soon as you exit Vegas or change the project, the image file will get deleted. So before you do anything, copy it to another directory.
2. It will be a hidden file called daotemp.dat, and should be in:

C:\Documents and Settings\[your logon name]\Application Data\Sony\Vegas\6.0

3. I don't actually know what, if any, other applications this DAT file can be used in. My copy of Nero tried but didn't succeed -- but I've been having issues with my burner, so that might be the problem. If nothing else, Vegas will give you the option of using the file if you open up that same project (and haven't changed anything) and go back to Tools -> Burn CD.

I only came across this "knowledge" afer reading your post, so I'm sure someone will be happy to point out why this method won't work, if that's the case. Or hopefully why it will, if that is. ;)

Perhaps if we knew exactly what you're trying to achieve by making an image file it'd help.
