Subject:out of the box 5.1 encoding?

I'm a bit confused with encoding Acid 5.0 and 6.0 is capable of. Can I encode 5.1 tracks from either of them right out of the box -- without the ac-3 plug?

My end goal is to mix these tracks with video for a DVD.

Also, I am a proud owner of Acid 1.0. Does that qualify for any of the upgrade paths? I can also call to find out, but thought I'd ask while I'm here. :)

thanks!

ACID 6 can surround encode straight out of the box to certain formats, but to encode DVD-ready AC3 files, you must purchase the AC3 plug-in (it's included with the Vegas+DVD package, if you have it). With that in mind, you can create 5.1 in the following ways without the AC3 plug:

- A 5.1 Window Media (WMA) file
- A 5.1 Sony ATRAC (AA3) file
- 6 separate mono WAV files for encoding in another application

Download the demo to try these functions out to see if they'll suit your needs.

Hey Hank,
I think you are in luck, man! As a registered ACID Pro user, of any previous version (yes, even as far back as ACID Pro 1.0), you can upgrade, for a limited time, for $129. That includes the N.I. Kompact and sample content. Be prepared though, because ACID Pro 6 and assorted content gets installed from (2) DVD's. Wow, going from ACID Pro 1.0 to 6.0, in one leap, I hope your head don't explode. :-P

Check out this Knowledgebase page, the top item (Special Offers) and click on it:

I can't help you on the encoding 5.1, I don't do surround, at least not yet.

Cheers,

Billy Buck

Thanks for the replies. Is Acid 1.0 really Acid PRO 1.0? The case only says Acid.

My head may explode, but I'm looking forward to it! :D

I'll have to check the documentation for my DVD software to see how compatible it is with the other 5.1 formats. I'm thinking I can at least use the 5 mono files. Thanks!!

The current $129 upgrade fee applies only to the "Pro" versions($$$), of ACID, otherwise it is $299.00, for upgrading from consumer versions, like ACID Music. It should say ACID Pro, on your retail box or install CD. The original ACID Pro cost several hundred dollars or more. I think I paid $269.00, for mine, back in 1999, from Guitar Center. You can always call or contact sony media software direct, for the exact details.

Cheers,

This is really the _first_ release of ACID. Entering the serial # in the site to upgrade it was accepted, though. :D
