Setting in/out points for selective burning

Often, I encounter an MPG 2 file that is too large to fit on one single layer DVD. I have found through experimenting with the set in and out points in the timeline that as these points are moved along the timeline to select only the desired portion of the complete clip that I want to burn, the "Disc Space Used" window will change to a smaller value as the in and out points are set closer together. The only portion of the clip that is perpared and burned is the portion that is selected between these points. This is a very very handy feature when triming or editing the clip in Vegas is NOT and option..

Somehow, this is no longer working and regardless of where I set the in and out points, DVDA 3C thinks that I am attempting to burn the entire clip which is too large for the DVD.

I have performed this operation at least three times with perfect results and I know it works but now, for some reason, DVDA disc size is not responding to the in and out material, preventing me from burning the clip.

Please provide input please.

What you are seeing now is the way it is supposed to work. DVDA has no way of burning only a portion of an MPEG file. It will always include the entire file. All the in and out points do is tell the player where to start and end playback.

The only thing i can think of is that when it was seeming to work for you before you may have been giving DVDA an AVI file instead of MPEG. In this case DVDA can render only the selected portion to an MPEG file.

Yes, the behavior when you feed it AVI files is different from when you feed it MPEG-2 files because it renders from the AVI files and can do the truncating when it renders. Since Sony has never included MPEG-2 cutting technology, none of their products (unfortunately) can cut MPEG-2, so you're stuck with the whole thing.
