New PC: Best way to transfer and upgrade

Getting a new PC delivered this week so looking for any real world advice on putting Vegas on the new one.

Currently running version 4 but still have the V5 upgrade to do as I read about problems at that time so just waited--I'm an occasional user & V4 was bullet proof when I did have a project.

Are there any issues if I just install V4 and then do the V5 upgrade & get updates from this site? Presume I can copy all the prior app files over and V5 will read them OK.

Finally, just use the uninstall programs on the old PC?

Well, first of all, I think that the license still allows you to have the program installed on a couple of PCs as long as you are only working on one at a time. Regardless, it's pretty straightforward. Install Vegas 4 on the new machine. If you want V5, install that on the new computer. As long as you've got the software and the license number you're set.

V5 reads V4 files perfectly but I don't think V4 will read the V5 file.

For other migration, Windows XP comes with something called "Files and Settings Tranfer Wizard" that is actually quite helpful.

Ah yes, that's right. That's the Sony Preset manager which can be downloaded for free off the sony media software site.
