How do you identify an event on the track?

Musiclover wrote on 2/20/2006, 9:52 PM
I used to use ProTools before and it was very easy to identify an event on the tracks- just click on the file name in a window like the Explorer and wow, the event in the track gets highlighted. Not in Vegas! The way I know in Vegas is as follows:

-If I want to know what is the event name on a track and its properties, tI have to select the event, hit the properties(right mouse click) and see what the file name is and then find it in the Explorer.

-On the other hand, if I want to see where an event from the Exlorer is used on the track, I do not know of any way to do it.

Are there better ways to do this?

Thnx much

Options > Preferences > General, check "Show active take names in events".

Right click a file in the Media Pool > Select timeline events.

Viewing take names in events used to be a pref, but this has recently changed (as of Vegas 6.0c), to the view menu.

View>Active take information.

Ctrl+shift+I is the keyboard shotcut to turn this on/off, and it is a mappable keyboard command.

MJ, Thanks for the tip. Now I do see event names. However it does not differentiate between original take and an edited one. For instyance, if I cut a selection from one track and paste it in another track's event, it retains the original take name in the inserted event. Is there way to keep track of the difference?
Thanks

Musiclover,

This is by design....rememebr that "events" are just a smaller visual representation of the larger original file. Since your "event" that you chopped is still coming from the real "take" file...the take name that you gave the file should logically appear on every "event" that you hack out of it.

I mean - what kind of the event name were you expecting to see?:

"Event 27 hacked out of Take 2 Recording 1" ?

Cheers!

No. He has not made the connection between the events on the timeline, and those in the Medai Pool. Mayve he doesn't even have the Media Pool viewed.

Still a suggestion of mine that events selected ion the timeline should echo as 'greyed' or something in the Media Pool. A major help to find them.
