Change the extention from vob to .mpg and it should work just fine.

Upgrade to Vegas 6.0c. It handles VOB files better (although still far from perfect).

The way to do this is by the File Menu:
File/Import/Media select All Files
That VOB files are not shown in the Vegas Explorer is proof enough that Vegas 6 does not officially support VOB files.
But I have to admit that version 6c has not crashed yet editing VOB files while version 6b crashed all the time.

Try dragging the .vob file into the timeline from WINDOWS explorer.

Yes....

Vegas 6c cans load a VOB file on the timeline with all video frames and audio wave peaks, like a commun mpeg 1 or 2.

I remember what in Vegas 5 and 6b was impossible edit a VOB file like a mpeg file, because only show the video frames but not audio peaks on the timeline.

When the VOB file is loaded on the timeline finally is possible edit it and render it to any video format. (mpeg 1 or 2, quick time, real, avi, etc)

Just to let you all know, I AM running version 6c.

Vegas just does not seem to accept VOB files, even when dragging from the WINDOWS explorer.

Hi DKE,

When I try, "File/Import/Media select All Files", I am not able to select a VOB file because it does not show up in the results to choose from.

In spite of having read about it on this forum, I learned how to do it the hard way today when a student brought in a home made DVD from her PVR. I tried importing the vob (remember to select All Files *.* or it won't see them) but only got a 1:17 file instead of the 23:30 it was supposed to be.
After beating my head against a wall for a while, the light bulb finally came on :-)
File - Import - DVD Camcorder Disc.
You'll need to select the folder that the vob is in and that's it.
Worked like a charm!!!

Mike

edit: Vegas creates a new folder inside of the one the vob came from and then makes a duplicate copy of the vob file for it's use. Make sure you have lots of hard drive space :-)

Tried it and it worked. However, it wants to grab the ENTIRE dvd which means it takes like an hour.

It does not seem to allow choosing which file is wanted.

Is there a workaround for this?

I used the Import - DVD Camcorder Disc for vob files because I actually use a SonyDVD403 dvd camcorder. The quality is very good when playing the minidvd on my dvd player.

Unfortunately, the quality of dvd's created from Vegas projects is very disappointing. The quality is about 1/2 as good as the original vob file.

How was your results? I have a ticket open with sony software, but we are not getting anywhere.

Because of the compression of VOB files, do I just have to live with degraded quality of the resulting Vegas movie?

search google for the program "dvdshrink3.2". It will allow you to crop any section of the dvd you want (uncompressed) and gives you VOB files on your hard drive. Then you use the import DVD camcorder Disc in Vegas and it renames the VOB files to mpg and places them in the Project Media tab. Then just drop the mpg files on your timeline and away you go.
