Weekend Projects ???

Hey all....been a while. Just curious what everyone is up to this weekend ? Shoots, edits, fun and frolicking ? ( How DO you 'frolick' anyways ? heh...)

It's the long weekend up here in Vancouver Canada and we finally got our summer weather goin. Probably head down the beach with the walkman, chair, and cooler. Watch all of the beautiful girls walk by. Maybe pass out some cards - Yup, Stonefield's always lookin for models.

A guy I know wants to get into editing some of his home movies but has zero experience. Asked what product he could buy ? Heh...Think I'll help him download the free trial of Vegas Movie Studio. I had a look at it awhile ago and must say, it's got GREAT tuturials for the new-to-video crowd. If he buys it, --- your welcome Sony.

Monday I go into the recording studio to film a new jazz band for their EPK they hired me to do so that's cool. Few more jobs like that and I can upgrade my DV Cam.

Busy weekend....which is great ! How about you guys ?

Hope your summer's are goin great.

Stan

Editing a video I shot of a friend's 40th birthday surprise party last month. Finally caught up enough on my other video projects to have the time to do it.

Shooting my second wedding ever, only because I need wedding footage from the HVR-A1 camera.
Oh, and resetting our greenscreen walls, because an airconditioner compressor leak stained part of ours.

Finishing the edit and packaging of a wedding we shot about a month ago, before my wife starts a new part-time job on Monday. Then hopefully....HOPEFULLY...archiving numerous projects via PTT and reformatting some drives....

Preparing for Monday....

Begin a new FT in-house video editor position [using Sony Vegas] at a 'Fortune TOP 25 Breakout Companies in 2005,' mobile television company. Thanks to all on this list who have encouraged and helped me to master Vegas over the years! This forum ROCKS!

I'm getting married on Sunday. A buddy of mine will be shooting it w/ my FX1. He shoots weddings so it should turn out pretty well. I might throw together a slideshow using Ultimatte S (thanks Spot, Johnney), if I get a chance tonight. We have 325 guests, making things interesting/ challenging. It is a county wedding, so the family is all pitching in to help out. I am excited, but can't wait for the honeymoon.

Last week I submitted to shorts cut on Vegas to the Hawaii International Film fest. hopefully one gets in.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable and productive weekend.

Congrats to you, Gabe! I wish we could be there. Randy Stewart is here, helping me shoot this wedding. Had I known....it would have been more fun to shoot yours!

I'll be cutting & mixing director's commentary for a documentary on Z Channel, directed by Xan Cassavetes for IFC. Two complete runs to cut together. Should be fun!

Doing live switching for another place at a wedding - Directing / on the fly Color Correction / set up & teardown. Then going to a relaxing dinner with my wife and mom.

Gonna be good - Live switching to set top recorders are quite a bit less time consuming than doing an edit in post.

Congrats to all you guys, taping weddings, getting married, starting FT editing jobs - way to go guys - ALL AROUND!!!

Wrapping a video for a national builder (which took me twice as long as I though thanks to Ultimate S 2 and all the cool features I had to learn and play with...but client loves them). Photo shoot for a local Plastic Surgeon and prep for Amsterdam shoot next week. HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!

Yeah, it would have been a good wedding to shoot. It took place at my new wife's uncle's garden in upcountry Kula, Maui. The area overlooked the whole central valley, and the south shore. It was a lot of fun, and very tiring. I just got back from diving in Kona. Wish I had a housing for my FX1. Fun, fun.

Moved office/editing suite to newly-renovated basement. Hired movers cause I'm one of those cardiac guys. Under-insured?
Switched to stand up mode,---bad back too. Falling apart?
Anyway got one of those IKEA metal outfits. Love it. Lots of room for video and audio monitoring equipment.
Oh,---and moving has it's pain.
The physical pain I avoided.
Not so for financial and psychological pain.
Movers ran a desk into a wall,----that is to say through the wall on stairwell.
That was Saturday.

Friday was a cliffhanger as a client began her trek from Detroit to almost Toronto to pick up personal bio for her hubby's b'day.
Thought I'd have a quick look at project,---'cause added some footage. Froze with 2 minutes to go. Just replaced Pioneer burner with LG 'cause of this problem. Evidently not a hardware issue.
Made the deadline with 5 minutes to spare thanks to a technically endowed associate..

That bring us to Sunday and a freelance radio gig for our national broadcast here in the Great White North,---the CBC. Two assignments,---one mid-air collision tween tow float planes the other a Canadian aid worker heading back to Sudan despite warnings from Feds that things are a tad unstable over there.
Radio,---TV without pictures.
So much simpler.
But this morning my masochistic side brings me back to the editing suite in the basment and a project for Canada's Technology Triangle.
Yorkie's barkin'. Can't adjust to Dad (me) editing in strand up mode.
I think I like this.
Anybody else a stand up guy,---gal.
Have a profitable and pleasing week.
I'll see what technical trouble I can get in to.
Another way I could get into trouble,---painting a wall green in new facility just freshly decorate by boss (wife).
That'd be my ticket to a single lifestyle.

Congrats on all the newlyweds out there! After 15 years, I can still say that marriage is great. I highly recommend it.

A post-mortem on my weekend:
1. Trying to put the finishing touches on my revamped website (how DO you force IE6 to do a line break at headings in CSS, anyhow?!!!). Check out the (still in progress) results at www.prolefeedstudios.com. Feedback welcome.

2. Saw "March of the Penguins" with my wife and son yesterday. Made me feel unworthy to hold a camera! Run, do not walk, to see this movie while it's still in theaters! About the only thing I can imagine being more challenging than being a cinematographer on this project (What kind of camera runs at minus 100 degrees in a blizzard? How do you keep the lens clean?) is being a penguin dad. (Sitting on an egg for 4 months in the Antarctic winter, with no shelter, sun or food... yikes!)

3. Screened two of my shorts at a free screening in a local 1920's movie house. Everything (all DVD from DV originals-- mine the only Vegas project) all looked really, really good on the big screen. They used an InFocus LP-540 projector. Must find out more about this unit.....

I cut a video of my trip to Bingeman's Water Park in Kitchener, Ontario Canada for fun using Vegas.

You can see it by visiting www.dolish.com and on the main page see "My Vacation Videos" in either HI WMV or LO MOV.

What's a weekend?

Haven't been home for a weekend since July 16 -17. This will continue until Labor Day.

This coming weekend, I will drive 1200 miles with my daughter to get her and her car back to school. Wish I had a laptop to edit some old family films when it's my turn to be a passenger along Interstate 64 and 70. (no offense intended to VA, WVA, KY, IN, IL, MO and KS)

You'll be passing by within 60 miles of where I live!
