Hi all,

I am a SF user, and am currently evaluating Acid.

Right now, I am working on a multimedia project with VO and music. So, I created a new project, added my loop, and then added my VO tracks as one-shots at the proper points. This worked great.

Now I would like to duck the music when the VO is active. Is there an easy way to do this, other than going in and manually drawing volume envelopes? I search the docs, but I didn't see anything.

Thanks.

Is this just one music track or several?

If just one music track, use SHIFT+V to insert a volume envelope. (Be sure to select the track first by clicking its icon in the track list.) Double-click anywhere on the envelope to insert an envelope point. Adjust accordingly.

If it's several tracks of music, insert a bus using the "Insert Bus" button in the Mixer, press B on your keyboard to open up the bus tracks view. Send the respective tracks to the bus using the device selector button in the track view (it looks like a square with another square inside it). Insert and work with a volume envelope in the bus tracks view as noted above.

Thanks for the reply.

The particular project (and most of mine in general) have lots of VO clips, so going in and manually adding all of the envelope points (four per) is a little tedious. I was hoping for something simular to a compressor with sidechain input, or some other way to automagically duck the music.

Automagically? Is that a word? :oD

Check out the Envelope Tool. It will allow you to easily copy and paste envelope points that you've selected. (Experiment as always to get a better feel for it.)

Know what you are looking for ... this might help. There is a free VST plugin called Sidechain Compressor by Slim Slow Slider (search to find it). You will have to do some thinking about how to route it, I haven't tried it myself. You can probably use a Acid bus setup to get it to work as a ducker.

PS the same programmer also has a free Sidechain Gate/Expander.

you can do that with a sindechain plugin like tc native bundle or http://www.db-audioware.com compressor.

Thanks for all the responses.

I got diverted to another project for a few days, but I found a VST sidechain compressor and will play with it when I get a chance.

I tried the dB one and it worked fine - read the Help file to find how to do it.
