V6 Vidcap crash when clip logging?

FrigidNDEditing wrote on 4/25/2005, 9:53 AM
Seem to be having a glitch with Vidcap 6.0 crashing when it logs clips.

I am also wondering if anyone else is having issues with V6 vidcap seeming very laggy in it's responsiveness to the player - It's possible that I'm just having some random problems on my own end. Just wanting to know if anyone is having trouble. Thanks.

Working with the trial (version 6a built 87)- Vidcap crashed when i attempted to rename the file.

Vidcap (and Vegas) also crash after 'capture image' + rename
FrigidNDEditing wrote on 4/25/2005, 11:15 AM
mine is 99

However I think it may just be time to format and reinstall Windows - so then it's hard to say if it's Vegas or microsoft :)

If I 'end task' on Vegas6... VIDCAP6 will stay open and I am able to capture. If I 'end task' on VIDCAP6, it closes then I'm forced to close Vegas6 because of this error.

Possible work around & fix?:

I just captured with vidcap6 and renamed my clip without a hitch.
I'm also working with build 99.
To give more detail, I actually searched for the beginning of where I wanted to capture (not the begiinning of the tape), captured the video, stopped (not the end of the tape) and renamed without a problem.

The abovementioned workaround worked for me:

After switching the mediamanager back on I can rename files without a problem

Thanks!

My capture crashes on capture on the Main PC.
It goes through he capture process, but when you press stop the program just hangs.

So still with scenalyzer, working faultless as ever.

I have been using Vegas 6 with pervious material without a hitch also....until tonight. Tried capturing with Vegas 6 and got the exact error Lamont refered to. Didn't copy the error message but it looks to be identical. Everything works fine...looks like it is working OK...then freezes on "Logging Clip 1 of ##". Tried three times with different material and it froze everytime. I haven't lost any clips and everything looks OK...but of course, it shouldn't be doing this.

Any one find a fix for this yet?

Thanks in advance.

(I guess if I read better and think less I'd see what was suggested.....:-) I'll give the re-install a try)

Vegas can crash if capturing using Vidcap when the Media Manager is disabled. This is probably why MyST can capture and rename just fine, but others have issues.

We can repro this and it will be fixed in the next update - truly sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks jwf, as it was happending for me every time I tried to capture its great to at least know why. I did/do indeed have Media Manager disabled so at least I now know to turn it on before trying to capture.

Look forward to the fix !

The other option would be to quit Vegas after Vidcap is launched. That will avoid the crash also - but you lose a little integration that way.
Jameson_Prod wrote on 4/29/2005, 7:18 PM
I had disabled Media Manager so Vegas would load a little quicker. I turned Media Manager back on and everything worked perfectly.

I think it would be nice for us to have the option to use or not use Media Manager and it not affect video capture (or anything else for that matter). I'm sure as I learn Media Manager I will want to use it but at this point I haven't toyed with it enough to know.

Thanks for the advice and the heads up jwf.
