More Efficient V6 Launch Times?

Hey...

I'm luckily cruising along without any errors to report as of yet. The new ripple functionality is making me happy -- I'm actually using it for the first time :)

Along the line of the topic, however -- is it possible to have the MM launch with Vegas, but be empty? I ask because if there is one thing that's a bit frustrating, it's the long launch time of V6. Half of this is the time it takes for the MM service to launch (I close it when exiting Vegas because it is, as others have said, quite the resource hog.) The other half of the time is scanning the current library.

Just for testing the MM, I loaded about 300 clips and saved it as a library. This is the default that now opens with every Vegas instance, regardless of whether I intend to use the media within it or not. 300 clips is just about where the MM begins to become useful, and with this it's a 45-50 second launch for Vegas -- at almost a minute, I don't want to imagine how long Vegas will take to launch when the MM truly becomes necessary -- 1,000+ clips.

Otherwise, are there general, system-wide disk and efficiency tips that may cut the launch time? Should I be looking into a larger page file, or monkeying with prefetch values?

Thanks,

- jim

I've played with page file size to no avail, I didn't mess with pre-fetch, although that might help.
If you find a better means of speeding launch time, by all means share it.
The 1000 clips don't seem to be much slower than small libraries. I've got a 1200 image library of Artbeats stuff, and it opens nearly as fast as with nothing in the library, but it's still a very slow load.

OK. Good to see I'm finding the same things here. Good meaning at least they're consistent with what you're finding. I created a new library with nothing in it and the startup time was exactly the same as my other library with 300 clips -- ??? -- I'd hoped this meant what you've just posted, that at least larger libraries would open likewise in about the same time.

Hrm, ok -- I'll start fooling with settings and whatnot -- if I find anything I'll post it here, and encourage others to do likewise.

SimonW, I think it was, said launch times of 5 and 6 were exactly the same on his machine or nearly so... strange.

If you aren't adding Sony Sound Series (aka Loops for ACID) audio files to your media library, you might try disabling the reference library if you have it installed. That will speed things up a bit as it does use resources even when you aren't viewing it within the media manager pane because we do a secondary search on that to see if we should automatically add some tags to the file as it is scanned in.

You don't need to completely uninstall it from add/remove program groups - just go into the media manager options dialog and select None for the reference library. That way you can always go back and use it for a bit if you need to.

Larger libraries take a little bit longer to open, but not dramatically so in my experience.
