Vegas 6.0 hasn't big features for me and for you?

Hello!

I see the new Vegas 6.0 and... is good, but the new features it isn't greats as in ther version 4 and 5, is my viewpiont.

In the video features has 4 new fetures, the feature "Multiprocessor support " not is for all users, no everybody has 2 o more porcessors into they PC. The nestleable tracks is good feature from Acid Pro 5.0.

In the audio features has just 3 new features.

in the Editing and Workflow Features has 5 good features.

In the Capture and Import Features no hasn't one new feature.

But NO ONE NEW FEATURE in Video FX, Transitions, Text static or roll, Media Generators.

For me and for other users, the best Vegas versions was the folows with califications:

.....Ranking............Points

1. Vegas 4.0......10 points
2. Vegas 5.0.........8 points
3. Vegas 3.0.........6 points
4. Vegas 6.0.........5 points
5. Vegas 2.0.........4 points
6. Vegas 1.0.........Was the first version.

DVD Architect 3.0 yes has new good features in each new version.

The goog ideas are dying at Sony?? For many users the best version of Sound Forge was the 6.0. Acid Pro always comes with many good features in each new version.

In the Sonic Foundry times each new version of a product was very expectived for the users, beacuse, a new version meaning new, powefulls and helps TOOLS and Featrures.

I doubt what Vegas 6.0 will be calificted like best non-linear editor of 2005 for the NAB, like happened in the last two years (versions 4 and 5)

Is my viewpoint.... what is your?

Juan

I agree, yet at the same time I'm not really complaining. Yes, I would have loved some additions that would have made my videos look cooler (ie-bezier in v5). At the same time though I hear the most requests being made to make vegas more acceptable on a professional level.

Since I assume that is where most of their money will come from or is coming from they have to put there upgrades there. With the HD, decklink, dual processor, etc upgrades I think they did a very good job of satisfying that demand.

Now, if the next version has nothing in the area that we want I will be pretty dissapointed. I am thinking of waiting until version 7 to upgrade and spending my money on something like after effects since I do not have a HD camera, dual processor machine, etc. It would be nice to get DVDA, but that doesn't come alone :(

In other words...I don't want to upgrade, but I'm not dissapointed with this new version understanding Sony's position.

Believe it or not: Vegas 6 is the best Vegas update I ever got!

There might be only few new features, but them all mean very, very much to me. Sony earns a big thank you from my side.

For me one new feature was worth it all. Able to import photoshop files with layer info

I'd agree with anyone who says there was a much more striking difference between 3 and 4 than there has been between 4 and 5, and now 5 and 6.

However, think about this -- as time passes, there will be fewer crucial improvements to the Vegas UI simply because it will have an increasingly complex feature-set already, based on prior revisions. So, of course the biggest leaps in terms of workflow and features came in versions 2-4 -- there was a larger room for improvement then.

Personally, I'm of the opinion that Vegas 6 is "Vegas 5 Done Right" -- it has all the niceties of 5 (e.g. bezier masks/presets) with all the upgrades pro editors have been screaming for since 4 (AAF/media management/Decklink/etc.).

There's room for improvement for several of Vegas's current features, and a few big changes that would be great (e.g. Rewire), but all in all it's quite "the editing powerhouse."

I already have Vegas 6, but I do not understand what people mean by an advantage of "with layer info".

Could someone please explain this to me?

I have used PSD files on the Vegas timeline for some time with the alpha channel and all, but I do not see what I have now that I did not have before, since Vegas 4?

What am I missing?

Thanks!

For instance, You can have a psd file that has ten layers. In 5, it was all one picture. now in 6 you can manipulate any layer you want.

I think Sony's pretty much on the mark for hitting the professional audience with V6. However, as a loyal V4, V5 and DVDA hobbyist, I'm also somewhat disappointed that V6 didn't include better text and titling tools. Even a small improvement would have been better than nothing.

The workflow enhancements are nice, but not a must have for me. I'm having trouble seeing much of anything in V6 that will help me, as a hobbysit, produce more professional results. The DVDA3 enhancements are nice, but nothing that's a must have.

I've been struggling with the question of upgrading to V6. At the moment, I'm leaning towards skipping V6. I'm beginning to think for my money, there's more value in 3rd party tools to improve an already outstanding and rock solid V5.

Even if I were to take advantage of the promotion, I would likely just put V6 on a shelf for a few months until it stabilizes. So it probably isn't making much sense to upgrade, at least not yet. I'm not a fan of software upgrade treadmills, so I may just standby for the moment.

I think it's wonderful. I skipped over 5, so I get all the features of 5 & 6 in one (no rule that says you can't upgrade every other year or so).

I LOVE the media manager. I spent about an hour last night tagging ~4000 of my 6500 audio files. I already had them orgionized by folder but now they are cross-referenced (so sounds in the music folder that can also be stingers/sfx are tagged prod music & sfx, etc). :) That's worth V6 in my opinion. But if you don't have lots of misc sounds, vid's & pics, it probley doesn't matter.

besides that feature I probley won't use the others, except the duel CPU support. BUT, I didn't upgrade to 5. I guess it could be said that I got a better deal because I get features that will be usefull in a year or so (HD, duel core/CPU support, etc), got all the upgrades in V5, but paid 1/2 the price. :) However, lots of people said that "pro's" didn't use vegas because it lacked certain features. So, they added those features & now people who complained it didn't have pro features complain it doesn't have hobbyiest features (I've read many times that there's no need for a good chroma keyer when people should just buy one, but people want a great titler when one is provided for free as an external program!)

It's also my first copy of DVDA & I'm thrilled to start using it. Beats the pants off my old one!

Yeah, I'd sure like to know how to do that too.

I believe what you describe is something that either After Effects and/or Premiere do. I don't think you can do that in Vegas.

If so, where?

Thanks!

I just look into the new manual of Video Vegas 6, and it is not possible to select a layer of a psd file. But may be it is avaible for DVD Architect 3.
skibumm101 wrote on 4/22/2005, 4:21 PM
Sorry my bad for the confusion. I should have described it better. Yes in deed you can use layers in DVD3 (i wish vegas 6). In our current pipeline, the graphics designer designes a layout for the DVD menu. He then has to export each individual item as a seperate file so we can import it into DVDA2. With the new ability, we will be able to import the whole psd file as one file as long as the layers are named correctly.

My take... Vegas is maturing. Hey, you noticed we're up to version 6. So the days of lots of additions is probably in the past. What's happening now is filling in the blanks and giving in to special interests that have whined and moaned for years for one "feature" or another. That's fine... if the features are what YOU wanted. Not so good if you have little or no use for them. In the past, you've seen most everyone jump on the upgrade bandwagon. I think we turned a corner. People will upgrade now ONLY IF they see a feature they need or more accurately think they need that still isn't there.

For me, and others I'm disappointed that Sony still hasn't found time to fix the handful of but still very annoying bugs that have carried over from one version to another. They're not getting any more of my money until they do.
