Importing media from Roxio Media Creator.

Hi,
I am a newbie in the video world. I started to edit a video with Roxio media creator 7.1 and it was a mess to try burning it or even produce an iso file.

So I surrender with Roxio and went to Sony Vegas... which is MUCH better!!

But, I already edit my 1:40 hr. video and I rendered it with Roxio Media creator. So it created an MPEG (5gig.) file that I can play with video and sound on any player on my computer. BUT, when I try to insert that file in VEGAS or DVD ARCHITECHT, I am having no sound, only video!

So I am asking this question because I don't want to lose time reediting my video in VEgas when I can find a way to simply import it from Media creator.

My settings:
Windows XP SP2
Creative labs AUGIGY sound card
DirectX 9.0c
300 gig of H-D
512 mb. of RAM...

Thank You.

This question really belongs in the Vegas Video forum. While part of it relates to audio, it's audio associated with video and video codecs.

As to your question, the reason the audio does not import into Vegas is that it is likely compressed to AC-3 for DVD delivery. Vegas encodes to AC-3 but does not decode it.

The best solution is to capture the raw video/audio again into Vegas, Vegas works best on .avi and .wav. While you can edit .mpeg (MPEG 2 most likely in this case) it's cumbersome and CPU intensive and as MPEG is a compressed format which means it's degraded from the original you will have to re-encode to MPEG 2 for DVD delivery further degrading the video.

There are third party apps. that can de-mux the MPEG-2 to AVI and WAVE which will allow you to then edit both the audio and video in Vegas but you are still faced with re-encoding to MPEG and degradation.

BTW 5 GB is too large for one DVD, it must be under 4.7 GB.

Thanks for the advices. BTW, 5 gig is ok, I am going to burn it on a Dual-Layer DVD. I am pretty sure that it is going to work on most DVD player.
