Steve,

Toshiba is making some 7200rpm drives in the 2.5" format.

You would have to have a laptop with a second drive bay in order to house that second hdd within the laptop chassie.

If you have the second drive bay, you should be able to install it yourself. Most laptop manufactures now view memory and hard drive upgrades as something that is end-user upgrade-able and doesn't void the warranty......but be sure to double-check with the manufacturer before doing this.

One thing I would caution you on is the amount of heat that a 7200 rpm drive could generate. Used to be that most laptops couldn't deal with the excess heat of a 7200 drive. I know that there are several manufacturers that are putting these into laptops...but not sure if they are including new technology to help with cooling...or if the drive manufacturers are supplying a cooler operating drive.......something to think about.
