Audio

I would like to add some home made music to my Vegas movies. I am no musician and only a hobbyist movie maker. I've tried Acid Studio but think I can actually do all I need in Vegas anyway, i.e. dropping a few loops on to some audio tracks and playing around. The thing is, I see that Acid Studio comes with 1000 loops which, for $70 seems quite good. Im in the UK so prefer downloads so can't really purchase loops & samples on CD - I've seen the loops on demand page but it looks like it would cost quite a bit more than $70 to get around 1000 loops.

So ..

Shoudl I get Acid Studio just fo rthe loops? Are they any good? Or should I just pruchase downloaded loops? Anyone know of any other sources?

Thanks.

If you look around, you can find lots of free samples on the interent. Most of the Acid libraries offer a few free samples that you can "try before you buy". Also, there are sites such as Acid Planet that offer free loops and free songs.

Check around.

Good luck.

FWIW, if you purchase the Vegas 5 Editing Workshop book, you'll get 1000 loops for the 35.00 book price. Loops from companies like Hark Productions (my faves) Cheaploops, Guitarwavs, and others are on there. There are many free loops on the web, too.

Acid Loops are very good. Thanks, you just reminded me to download my ACID Pro loops. When you buy and register Acid Pro, you get free downloads that Sony puts up every month. If you just need the basics for Acid, check Ebay for old versions. I bought Acid Pro 3.0 for pretty cheap there. It was the real program and I was able to register the software.

Acid definitely gives you more than Vegas when working with loops. I find it easier to work with loops in Acid than in Vegas. What you with Acid Studio is probably a few different loops in a lot of different styles--dance, classical, cinematic, rock, hip hop, etc.

If nothing else, it will be a good start to your collection. You will have loops in a lot of styles. You will also get to hear samples from actual Sony Loop Libraries which can tell you if want to buy the whole collection.

Over time if you go to Acid Planet, you can get a nice collection.
Check Smart Loops and Hark loops too. There are a lot of other places on the web too.

Do the loops from Hark Productions require a program like Acid, or can you just just drop them into Vegas and build them there as Jack was asking?

The HarkLoops are Acidized, so they drop into Vegas wonderfully.
Check out the Beautiful Piano stuff, it's an awesome library.

Hark has some free loops to download.

Vegas 5 has added support for Acid Loops. So put a regular wave and one of the free sample loops in a veg and play with them, you'll see what's different

If one has *trial* version of Acid, can he download from Get Media ?
That could be another way to get free files...

Thanks for all the advice. Spot, I have your book, got it as soon as it came out - just hadn't really studied the CD yet! Yet another reason to get this book if you haven't yet!

You have to be registered to download from Get Media and you can register a trial version unless you buy it, so No.

Sorry to come back to this. Spot, are the sample files in the CD with yoru book the same ones that come with Acid Music Studio? Also, does anyone kno whether Music Studio as opposed to Acid Pro can do anyhting really much more than I can do in Vegas anyway?

Many thanks.

Sorry to bump - especially when not logged on in the right name - I;m the original poster. But ... can anyone tell me whether there is anythingh I will gain from Acid Studio (not Pro) that I don't get in Vegas anyway?

Many thanks,
