External video preview question

I have an external preview TV that I'm trying to use with Vegas 4.0. The video runs through an "OCHI Compliant IEEE 1394/DV" firewire port, through a Dazzle DV Bridge, and into the TV.
This works fine for the upper video track, but as soon as I try to preview any video on any other video track the external video cuts off and the software preview shows it.
Why can't I see a multi-track video project externally? Is this a bug or a feature, and can it be fixed?

Wow... that does not sound very good at all. That is not how it is supposed to work. But... just to be clear here.. can you see that video on the internal (computer) monitor (i.e. with external preview switched off)?

Yes, with external preview switched off I can see everything on the internal software preview just fine. Everything is fine if I don't use the external monitor.
External preview stops working when there is more than one track playing at the time. For example, if I have a project with multiple tracks, the external video preview will play when there is video on ONLY one track. When it runs over a piece of the project with two pieces of overlapping video, the external monitor goes black and Vegas starts playing it in the software preview.
On a different preview note -- I just noticed that when there is any kind of effect on the video, even if it's only on one track, the external preview stops and it has to use the software preview to show the video with the effect. This even applies to something like black and white.

Thanks for any help

Try Options>Preferences>Video Device> ...and check the "Recompress edited frames" box.
