Firewire storage + dv output = crash

I just got a LaCie hard disk array to solve some of my storage problems
and now I can do dv output without problems. The disk array is connected
to an Adaptec Fireconnect 8300 card by Firewire 800 and my ADVC-100
hardware DV codec is connected straight to the regular Firewire port
on the Adaptec card.

Often when I try to play from the timeline off the array Vegas 4 freezes
if it is outputing to the ADVC-100. This isn't very workable. Anyone have
any ideas? (I've got XP Home)

I had the same trouble when first using Video Factory 2 with a FireWire Direct combo FireWire 800/400 card. The way I solved it was by getting a cheap FireWire 400 card (with the TI chipset) and things were fine after that. I guess I thought that the FireWire 800 and 400 ports would be on a separate bus on the card, but apparently they're not and sharing storage and capture/output to tape with the same card doesn't work very well.
