remastering a dvd in VV5?

I filmed a dvd early in my career. Needless to say, the original footage is gone (a lesson I've learned along the way KEEP YOUR ORIGINALS). The audio is mpg2 instead of ac3 and as a result, I get about a 10% return rate because of audio isn't compatible. What I would like to do is remaster the dvd through Vegas5. I opened a vob, but the audio, first plays, and main title are seemingly all smashed together. For example, I have two first plays. The second 1st play audio covers the audio of the main title for about 10 seconds.

Ok...I'll boil it down. What do I need to do in order to 'remaster' the audio into ac3 and reauthor the disk? While I'm at it, I'm going to use 'auto-levels' to fix up some of the video components. The problem is with all the titles seemingly smashed together.

TIA...

I've just done this, needed to convert a PAL DVD I authored some time ago to NTSC (PS NOT my footage, Bob isn't that silly or cheap as to reuse tapes).
Pretty simple really, just copied everything off DVD to folder on HDD, dropped VOBs straight onto T/L and rendered as NTSC mpeg-2. All the menus are also stored as VOBs on the DVD, you just need to pick the right ones.
I suspect the reason Vegas accepted the VOBs without renaming was because there's also a DVD player app on the PC.
I did note though sometimes the audio would end a few frames pre/post the vision.
If this really is having major stuff ups then play it out of a player and recapture it, not the nest for quality but not to bad. There's a few players around now that have 1394 output.
Bob.
