Subject:Rendering tracks and Volume

How come whenever I render a mix to a wave it drops the volume considerably? If I render a track, add more things and render it again it drops even lower. Eventually it gets to the point I have process the volume in Soundforge up a few dbs just to hear it. This is in 4.0 by the way.

If you are rendering to a new track, the Preview fader determines the volume! Try increasing the preview volume and you’ll see you renders get louder.

To be more clear on this:

The preview fader is used to set the default volume for a new track in ACID. So, if the preview fader is set to -3 dB, and you load in a loop, the track created for that loop will have its initial volume/gain setting at - 3dB. This can be adjusted any time and is not a fixed setting.

The Preview fader is NOT used in any aspect of rendering.

Ooops. I sand corrected. I didn’t notice that the fader on the track was matching the preview fader making it seem like the track had been rendered at a different volume. Setting the track faders back to zero does yield the same volume. (sorry)

Adding to what everyone's said, get the tracks you plan on bouncing down as close to unity (0.0 dB) as possible before rendering to a new track. Worry about mixing the newly rendered track back in with your project later.
