Blank Media Help

AaronLittle wrote on 11/18/2004, 9:18 AM
I have always used Ritek 4x DVD-R media with excellent compatibility results for my customers. I use a Lite-On 4s DVD burner. I have always bought my disks from NewEgg.

So today I go to order more discs for a big order coming up and they no longer carry these disks.

What do you suggest as a good blank disk?

What type of results should I expect if I use Ritek 8x DVD-Rs?

Can I use 8x DVD-Rs with a 4x burner?

Thanks,

Aaron

Yes, you can use 8x blanks on a 4x burner. However, meritline still carries the G04 media from Ritek - I just ordered 500 yesterday. 48 cents/disk with the 10% discount they currently have.

I have been wondering how long the G04 disks would continue to be available. Everyone has been running such great sales it had to be soon.

I had to buy a new DVD drive last night and pretty much only the 16x dual layers were available. But the good news was that the pioneer model was only $119.00 after rebate at Best Buy.

I also will be interested to hear what media others are using.

Yahoo's media shop always seems to be having a sale on the Riteks. I'm pretty sure that their prices are competitive.

Thanks ScottW,

I just ordered 200 disks from meritline at .44 cents a piece. Now I just need to find a good cheap place to order 3 disk DVD cases.

The new Ritex 8X ones will work just as well as the 4X ones, just make sure you have the firmware updated on your drive. The thing I like about the 8X ones is that on the inkjet printable ones you can print all the way to the center hub now.

Ouch...I hate to say it but you could have gotten it a lot cheaper!
You can get them for $74 at newegg.com. With NO rebates!

I shopped around and actually saw that one. The need was immediate and no shipping from best buy.

I like the idea of printing all the way to the center. Next project (after I use up the 150 4x I have around) will be on the 8x.

I order my Ritek discs from Shop4tech.com They seem to have good prices, although I haven't ordered anything above 50 at a time. However, 50 discs costs me like $23 shipped.

I always hate it when you have to have something right away and you are forced to buy retail even though you know you can get it for much cheaper online :)

The good news is though that this 16x drive is great. I have it installed on a PIII Windows ME 450mhz computer and it is chugging right along. Do not care much for the Ulead software that came with it though. Vegas is far superior.

I know Meritline carries *4* disk DVD cases.

I don't remember the price, but they were not too expensive. Nice cases too.

Dumb, OT question. I just checked out the newegg.com website. I didn't see that the 108 (same as the A08, right?) is Dual Layer. Am I just flat out missing it? or is this not dual layer? And, um... in a nutshell, what is dual layer? or, where can I find an article that explains it in words a simple brain like mine can understand?
Thanks!
