It's back AGAIN!!! ALL Audio peaks are being re-built.

Liam_Vegas wrote on 4/4/2004, 3:34 PM
Anyone else remember this? Last time the clocks changed we all found our audio peaks getting re-built. It is happening again. If you live in an area where you clocks changed to daylight savings early Sunday morning then you'll likely find every project you open from now on re-builds the audio peaks.

Not a very clever thing to do.

Hopefully V5 has had this silly programming fault corrected.

I sure do.

I havn't seen it yet, but the day is young... :)

I remember too. In fact I thought about this last night and wondered if it was going to occur again.

I haven't opened vegas all day to see. A Sunday without Vegas??

For me all I need to do is to open ANY veg... and the audio peaks get re-built. Unless this is something peculiar to my setup.

Just checked this, and my audio peaks did not get rebuilt.

I checked and my audio waveforms WERE rebuilt.

I seem to remember last time that it only affected people in certain areas.

Really weird...

Mine are being rebuilt as well.
I haven't tried closing/re-opening the file after the rebuild, but will try. I guess I never noticed this last year.

Just closed a file with six audio tracks that had to be rebuilt. It appears that the problem occurs only the first time you open a file after the time change - wierd, and a little annoying, but, nothing for me to get excited about.

That's probably why I didn't even notice it if it happened last year. I may have opened the file and move on to some other task as the peaks were rebuilt.

Strange, nonetheless.

Rebuilding peak 5 of 54...

waiting... waiting... waiting...

It's the halloween time change peak ghost.

I just opened about half a dozen projects from the past week, and none of them got re-built. Weird.

Hmmmm... verrrr-y interesting. I haven't notice this because I've been working on exclusively new projects today, but I'll look for it when going back to ones that were in-progress yesterday.

On a related note, I have a different program that had strange time-related issues today. It's Winfast PVR, the recording software for my TV tuner card. I wanted to set the timer to record an FM broadcast that ran from 1 to 5 PM today, but everytime I entered the times, it would be saved in the program list as running from 12 to 4. I tried several times before giving up and setting the program time to 2 - 6PM. After doing that, the scheduled program list showed 1 - 5, and it started recording at 1. Very weird.

What is rebuilding peaks and why is it a bad idea?
Rogueone wrote on 10/31/2004, 7:25 PM
So is it related to the clock change thing? I do remember the post last time, but I didn't seem to have issue with it. But nonetheless, I happened to open up a project today and it re-built all peaks. Very strange! !

"What is rebuilding peaks and why is it a bad idea? "

The peaks file is a separate file that permits the display of the audio waveform on the audio track. Having to rebuild this file just takes a little time away from you. It's not harmful, but the question is -- what happens as a result of the time change that makes it necessary to repeat this operation?

This bug was fixed in Vegas 5 and DVD Architect 2.0 (and Sound Forge 7.0a or higher, I believe -- I'll check on this tomorrow).

Your audio peak files will rebuild if you open your media in older apps that don't have this fix (Vegas 4, DVDA 1, etc.).

They will also be rebuilt if you had captured your AVI files in Vegas 4 when we were on Daylight Savings Time and load them into Vegas 5 now that we are on Standard Time. But once Vegas 5 has updated the audio peak files, you should not experience them being rebuilt (say next April when we go back to DST), as long as you don't open the media in older applications after we change our clocks again next spring.

I just placed a post concerning the rebuilding of the audio proxies in my Vegas files yesterday. I am new to Vegas and thought I had probably unknowingly caused the problem myself. It was not fun going through all my files and waiting for the proxies to rebuild. Guess it could have been worse.

Here's a list of the application versions that have been fixed so the audio peak files won't rebuild when there is a switch from Daylight to Standard time (or vice-versa):

ACID Music 5.0
ACID Pro 5.0
DVD Architect 2.0
DVD Architect Studio 2.0
Movie Studio 4.0
Sound Forge 7.0b
Vegas 5.0

I don't think so.

Vegas 5.0

Vegas 5.0b - time DID change - peaks did NOT rebuild

Oopsss. You're right. Further investigation reveals the file in question was captured by Vegas 4.

Sorry!
