Subject:change default MP3 sample rate?

Hi all... I'm using SF6 in a radio production environment... therefore saving a lot of WAV's with the occasional MP3 tossed into the mix. Is there a way to save 192kb as my default sample rate in the "save as" dialogue? Whenever I change the file type from WAV to MP3, the sample rate resets to an unacceptable 64 kb/s. Is there a way to "stick" the 192 setting as the default?

Set up all the MP3 parameters just the way you want them, then save those settings as a new template by clicking the floppy disk icon in the upper right corner of the custom window. You'll have to give it a new name, such as "my usual MP3 settings" or something like that. Then you can pick that template from the list every time you render instead of having to go into custom every time.

well, yeah, but THAT'S not specifically the problem. What I want to do is have the "my usual MP3 settings" template be the default... so i don't have to use the list at all. I'm not sure if I'm explaining it correctly.

You're explaining it perfectly. I think the problem is that there's no way to do what you'd like to do. I'd like to do the same thing - except with 320 as the default. All I've been able to figure out how to do so far is what Chienworks described. But for all intents and purposes, I could just keep selecting the 320 preset each time. The point was/is to try somehow to set that as the default. And I think the bottom line is: We can't. If I'm wrong, then maybe someone who knows how to do it can explain the secret.

When you click on Save as and select .MP3, click on the "custom" button. Select your 192kbs under the encode settings tab. Save it as a preset if you want, but not really necessary. Click OK, then save your file. Now when you do a save as it will default to those last settings you used. At least that's how it works in my 7.0 version.

Red, that works for me until i quit Sound Forge. The next time i start it up again it will go back to the default template again.

What I've found is that I can close and re-open SF and 192 remains. However, once I save as another filetype, (WAV, for example) then switch back to MP3, it's set as 64. No biggie, it's just one of those "woukln't it be nice if..." kinda things.

I've been using the Winlame R3 for a while now .
It's much faster and has many more options than the SF MP3 utility... like batch processing, overwrite, delete sourse, hi /low pass filters, and far more sample / bps. rate settings... And yes RadioMojo you can have a default preset.
However you can't "Save as" since it's a separate application from SF.
Some of the more advanced settings require changing or adding relitively simple text code to the .xml preset file.
I can find the URL for download if someone would like it.

Oh yeah, and it's freeware.
