How to Add Markers to Events Only

MarcS wrote on 8/17/2004, 6:25 AM
Sometimes I want to add local markers just to a particular event within a project, not to the entire timeline. I know that within the trimmer one can add markers or regions that stay local to the event. Can one also do this within the timeline view? There are a number of instances when I am working on the timeline and want to tweak my final project by dragging certain audio and clips here and there. Being able to mark them in the timeline would be very handy. Is there a way to do this?

Thanks,

MarcS

As you have seen, markers will affect the entire timeline.

It would be nice to have an Alt-M type key for Vegas 5.x that could place a marker in a local event, but not the timeline. I wish there was a way to shortcut this now.

Thanks,

The only effective way to do this is to do it at the Trimmer. So, if you're in the tweaking stage and want to mark something, right click it to open that segment in the trimmer, mark it up, then redeposit it back to the timeline.

That's a great idea MarcS, I myself would love to see this ability as well. Having to open in trimmer and redeposite back in timeline seems like uneccessary steps if it could be achieved with a simple ctrl+M (for example).

Wonder if Sony *could* (or would) consider adding this ability in future patches.

You don't actually have to redeposit the event in the timeline. When you mark a clip in the trimmer the mark shows up in the timeline immediately.
