Vegas is designed to work in conjunction with DVD-A2 if you want to make DVDs. DVD-A2 is not just a data burner like Roxio, it actually lays out and creates the DVD behavior. If you render in Vegas to MPEG-2 video and AC-3 audio, you can theoretically create DVDs from those files, but there is a preparation step in there to convert to standard DVD format and VOB files. I don't think there's any way to fake this by hand... you probably need software to do it. Maybe Roxio or Nero has simplified functionality to do this, but I don't think so.

Oh, also, I don't remember but if you don't get the DVD-A version, you might also not have the AC-3 encoder. Anyone remember if that's only in the +DVD version?

Basically you need some kind of DVD Authoring Program in order to get your video on DVD. DVD-A is a good one but there are tons of them out there from companies like Nero, Ulead, Tmpgeng, Sonic etc..

I would suggest that you use DVDA with Vegas. You can also use other authoring programs but DVDA 2 works fine and provides options you might not get in another program. Two other good authoring programs and DVD Workshop from Ulead and DVD Labs.

As you have Vegas 4, this might be the time to upgrade to Vegas 5 + DVD as DVD Architect is not available as a standalone application. Now that I've waved the Sony flag a bit, I'll say that there are a number of other good apps out there - I also have DVD workshop and I rather like it although it's somewhat expensive when purchased on it's own.
