merging AC3 audio with video

Hi

I am new to DVD-A so apologies for asking a question which must be around for ages but i can't seem to find any answers:

1. I have rendered the video through V5 into the MPEG2 format (video only)

2. I have rendered the audio as a separate AC3 audio file.

SO - how do you get DVDA to combine these two together so the end result is a 5.1 encoded project?

When you load your video into DVDA, it will automatically use the audio that is with it, you then need to tell is to use your AC3 file instead. The video and audio files are to the right of the screen. Just browse for your AC3 file and that should do it if I understand your question correctly.

However I have been told it is best to bring your video in DVDA in an AVI. file and let DVDA output it as a MPEG-2 file.

Hope that helps

If you can encode from the Vegas timeline to M2V, you'll be better off than rendering to avi and importing the avi to DVDA. DVDA has far fewer rendering options.
And as mark says, when you render an avi or m2v file from Vegas and save in a folder, if you render the audio with the same filename, DVDA will marry them together automatically IF you have that option chosen in DVDA preferences. It's on by default.

I just went through this so here’s what I learnt. I understand that you have rendered the audio as an AC3 file and the video (no audio) as an mpeg file. The trick is to ensure they both have exactly the same name the only difference being the file extension. Now go to DVDA, find the folder where you have the two above mentioned files stored, and using the ctrl key select both and drag to the Menu box. Then go file, make DVD and the output should be a vob file containing both audio, 5:1 encoded and video. Hope that helps.

Oh, make sure you selected the 5;1 template when rendering the AC3 file in vegas!

Thanks for this all.

I think i haven't been going far enough with the preparing of the file, so will try that. I have imported both video and audio in the exact way as Sevente has suggested.

thanks for this. will come back to you on what i find.

cheers
