I have a few of them and, so far, they have worked flawlessly. For $99, it's a heck of a deal. I use the Ritek G04 inkjet printable media and the images look quite good.
Got mine for $91 (delivered) from OneCall.com, good experience, it arrived in about 4 days! I saw a link from OfficeMax (or maybe it was Office Depot) where they actually had a $50 rebate on this one, so look for that (which of course makes it a $49 printer steal of the decade).
First few prints on the Epson glossy photo paper (a few sheets are included in the box, along with a set of ink) are very nice indeed.
After printing 100 DVD's in 7 days on it, I noticedone small annoying thing. sometimes the CD/DVD tray doesn't get sucked in right away. You have to give it a small nudge.
It's a very good and reliable printer. I get pretty much photo quality on the Memorex CD and DVD.
The only thing is that this is definitely a "few CDs here and there" printer. If you do large quantities on daily basis, you might have to look for something more robust.
Anyway, thumbs up from me.
> Just bought one today.. Office Depot $50 rebate ends tomorrow...
Mike, Well more than the rebate has ended. I just tried to order one and it said it was discontinued. I guess Office Depot was clearing them out and ran out of stock. :(
> The HP stuff looks really nice but for $50 this is a really good deal.
What does HP have that prints DVD’s? I would much rather buy HP than Epson anyway.
Office Depot "on-line" said "discontinued" but I went to their local outlet and found that they had three in stock. $98.76 USD minus the $50.00 rebate = $48.76 net and it works great, so how could you go wrong?
I bought the last one in Salt Lake yesterday (at least from Office Depot) - Best Buy has plenty in stock but no rebate - I have yet to print photos or a DVD / CD but I have had issues printing business cards on Avery stock. Does anyone recommend a good program for printing cards? I've used Printmaster in the past and Avery has a basic program but neither handle hi-res images very well..
I just bought one today....err, ah, yesterday (12:58am now)....
The box opened just fine and I found a printed manual..... A PRINTED MANUAL... I'm not sure if that's a good sign or not. I don't recall getting a manual with any of my HP printers.
Anyway, John... are you sure the printer itself has been discontinued by Epson or could it possibly be that the "discount" has been discontinued? Or perhaps Office Depot has discontinued selling this particular make and model?
Office Max has this promo rebate listed....but they DO NOT honor it. Check it out on their site. Once you add it to your cart...it states that the item is not available in your area. I tried 3 different zip codes in 3 different states...same message from all three.
I can't imagine that the printer has been discontinued, but the word "discontinued" was used in a few earlier posts and I wanted clarification on that.
Someone may have thought it was discontinued because of the R300? I own an R300 ($179) and when I recently saw the R200, I was like "what?" Epson was pretty smart, IMO -- they stripped the R300 of the card readers & deisplay screen - neither of which are "needed" for printing CDs/DVDs -- and cut the price in half. We're moving our studios, and I plan on buying 2 or 3.
BTW, my R300 goes through some fits at times where I get a "Tray Load Error" message. It is a sporatic occurance. The white guides on my tray were smudged once and are not "perfectly white" anymore. Any R300/200 owners out there think it might be the guides doing this? The tray on mine was literally "inked" the first time I used it, so I don't have a "before" to compare it to.
I don't think it's the guides. I think that sometimes that eigther 1) it's not being shoved in enough or 2) the part with the rolers doesn't lift up all the time.
I give it a slight nudge right when it gets stuck and it's ok.
I bought the Epson R800 this week, so far I am very pleased. Photos are achivial quality, water resistant, rival Kodak processing, and are supposed to last 100 years.
DVD's look good so far, but Epson's "Print CD" software seems a little weak. Are any other programs available to print
DVD's with this printer?
