SonyKSA,

Are you going to kill the offending threads? Because you should.

<EDIT>
I think you did.
SonyKSA wrote on 6/17/2004, 3:01 PM
Yes, I have killed several that have been brought to my attention, and will continue to do so. If you spot any that I have missed, please feel free to let me know via this form. Please include the URL of the offensive post.

We don't have anyone solely dedicated to monitoring the forums, so we truely appreciate those of you who always post responsibly. It allows those dedicated individuals on our staff who find the time to visit the forums to focus their efforts on helping customers use our software.

Being deleted is one thing. I have experience that a couple of years ago when I gave a not very good solution to someones technical problem. Being ignored is something, too. I get that all the time, I reckon.
BUT, in this thread I posted something - and an hour later the post said something very different from what I wrote. I should like to know who did that, and why, because I don't want anyone to speak for me.
SonyKSA, I urge you to look into this. Can two people post under the same name?

Do you have the ability to lock the thread so noone can post instead of delete? That might be more "humane."

In other words, they expect us to police ourselves. Locking threads means they would have to assign someone full time to police work. I just don't think it is necessary or productive.

This forum by comparison to other forums I have participated in is quite civilized and most people are respectful of one another's intentions. By and large the vast majority of people posting here are here to help each another and to that end these forums are a huge success.

When someone is out of line or is dragging the forum down. Tell them. If they truly persist and you are getting nowhere, fill out a complaint form and let the mods know. But that should be a last resort not a first one.

Maybe they could "recruit" a dedicated forum member to be a user/moderator. Kind of like a lackie. :)

You know - this is very weird - I saw this thread and posted here. Now that post is gone - vanished. Someone is now selectivly deleting, and I guess in your case changing, our posts. However in my case all I did was ask what happened to cause this thread - I also see some other posts are now missing.

SonyKSA, SonyEPM, anyone - what is going on now? I can understannd if a post (normally it is the entire thread, not just one post) is removed because it is very offensive however TorS seems to have had the owrds in his post changed amd in my case my post was deleted. i can't see how my post, in any way shape or form, could be considered offensive to anyone...or could it be someone is hacking into these forums?

(matter of fact i seems as though *all* posts I have made since the 15th have been removed. ?!?!?!?!?! )

Tors post from yesterday that said "thant you", then his statement that he didn't post that are gone (it was him, right?)
JonnyMac wrote on 6/18/2004, 6:34 AM
Thanks. Perhaps you (Sony) should start killing Off Topic threads as well ... they're beginning to run rampant, and many not even close to having anything to do with editing.
SonyKSA wrote on 6/18/2004, 6:36 AM
When we delete a post, it deletes all responses to that particular post. Sometime we start at the top, which kills the whole thread. Other times we'll delete from the middle. Moderators also have the ability to edit any post.

There were some posts added to this thread that included quoted personal attacks from other threads (which BTW, would ideally be reported via this form). So I tried to clean it up, and there was some fallout of innocent messages. Sorry about that.
TorS wrote on 6/18/2004, 7:19 AM
That's all right, as long as we know what's going on.
As I am pretty sure everyone who ought to see my posts to this thread has seen them, and the need to put things in for the record has vanished along with the posts I needed to put straight, I rest my case.

I must have missed a very interesting thread, when I read this, I thought for sure the Honda had been forced off the road.

The other offending thread(s) must have been interesting indeed!

What's going on is apparently Sony is playing favorites. They deleted my comments in this thread reporting abuse of me, yet the original thread where I'm abused remains. It isn't the first time. This kind of practice where "objectionable posts" are cherry picked creates the impression Sony is condoning what the abuser said since he seems to enjoy a special relationship with Sony.

Its a sad day when a major corporation tries to hush up what one of their beta testers and demonstrators says when he blurts out something in anger, yet at the same time Sony allows his abuse in the original thread where he uttered the abuse to remain.

Derogarory content removed by moderator.

The offending thread has been deleted. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.
TheHappyFriar wrote on 6/18/2004, 10:03 AM
Maybe they could make a seperate forum for off topic stuff. I mean, most of the question on this forum aren't even about editing at all, but computer/technical stuff. :) We have more questions about how to rip from DVD's, hooking up camera, computer problems, etc. then actuatul editing.
Chienworks wrote on 6/18/2004, 11:47 AM
Steve, i think that's a great idea. Have a generic forum that isn't directly related to any specific software line. That way folks who want to post and read about other topics can, and those who don't want to don't have to sift through all those posts.

Kowledge Base?
Chienworks wrote on 6/18/2004, 12:19 PM
The knowledge base isn't a place where end users can post questions, comments, and replies. The forum is still the place for that. It would be nice to have an "off-topic" section separate from the others.

KB will train people to come here with a succint question.

If we're voting for an off-topic forum, I say "Aye!"

I really like to read OT stuff so I think it'd be a shame to just outlaw it.

Even the mud-slinging gets quite inventive sometimes, well, until it gets ridiculous that is.....

Wow,, learned a new derogatory word,
My son is learning Vegas and he reads this forum often ,cause of course his Dad doesnt know much, well what an unbelievable level of immature behavior is being exhited by some folks who I know he can learn a great deal from. Sure you can be knowledgable and still a jerk ,but if you cant share without being a jerk ,why not just stay off the forums, or go to the ones where people appreciate your childish arrogance
I think some people have way too much time on their hands.
Rant over.

Censor away Sony.

I have no problem with Sony deleting personal attacks. There is no place for those on this forum. OTOH, as I stated before, I hope Sony will tolerate discussions that go beyond the nuts and bolts of Sony software, even "political" ones, as long as they have some basis in media editing. I, for one, enjoy the digressions. Maybe some kind of OT forum is best.

In the interests of keeping some kind of focus, how about an "Editing" or "Media-Making" thread instead of just a generic "OT" thread? And before you say there are other forums for that kind of discussion, I may want to talk specifically to Vegas users about such issues, since I know we have a common base of understanding.
